Aoi always had the BEST parties, hosted every year on December 24th, Christmas Eve.

Aoi was sitting in her house, lit only with the rainbow lights of her christmas tree. It was currently 6 in the morning, and she realized she woke up way too early, as she had finished decorating over 30 minutes ago and now had no clue what to do.

It was too early to meet any of her friends, too early to start baking the food for the party, and too cold for the farmers market to be up and allow her to go work.

It wouldn't matter anyways, it was too early and no one would be buying sweets on Christmas Eve. Most people would be spending time with their families.

She sighed and bent backwards, cracking her back with her hands above her head.

Well, what else to do except sleep? So Aoi then dragged herself up her stairs, burrowing in her large fluffed up comforters to keep out the cold.

And luckily for her, she fell asleep almost as soon as she fell into her bed, having woken up two hours ago at 4 and only getting five hours of sleep.

-

The sunlight irritated her eyes and she cracked them open before shielding herself from the harsh rays.

Wait, the sun?

Aoi had accidentally fallen back asleep for another 5 hours, which shocked her more than it shocked anyone else.

She tiptoed down the hallway, careful not to wake her mother, who would be leaving to stay at her friends home for Christmas.

Not that Aoi minded, she saw her mother plenty and had no problem being away from her for a bit. She and her mother were on very good terms, so when she told Aoi that she would be regrettably spending the holidays with a close family friend.

Aoi told her everything would be okay, and she'd have lots of fun memories to tell her when she returned.

The friends house was a town over, so she would have to leave soon today, though the walk wasn't too long and she'd be going with her friends nephew.

Aoi decided to spend the time waiting for her mother to wake up, by making her a picnic basket for the walk.

So that's how she spent her morning, or, afternoon, I suppose. She also made some extra things for herself, as she was getting a bit hungry too.

Nene, also spent her morning baking. She was lucky enough to save a couple of frozen strawberries from her garden, although most were bought from the market before it got too cold to grow any more.

With the strawberries, she used the kitchen in the Inn the bake her strawberry filled rice cakes.

Her father and the Inn's owner were close friends, so she knew her pretty well. Whenever Nene asked to use the kitchen for baking, she complied with a smile and sent her on her way.

Also, she sort of, maybe, got a discount on staying there because of her relations too. Just maybe though, since the other residents weren't supposed to know.

"Hello Nene! How's it going for you?" Nene turned around to see the Inn's owner standing in the door frame.

She smiled back. "Hi Missus Gardnier! I've been doing well."

"Ahh, good for you. How's it been, living alone in the woods? If you needed, I could bring you some things sometimes."

"It's been treating me quite well, I do enjoy the wilderness."

"Good, good. Are you baking for Aoi's Christmas party? Would you like some help?" Ms. Gardnier leaned off the wall and came to stand next to her at the counter.
