Although sometime past 10:30 PM was much, much later then the time any normal person would have dinner, Aoi dubbed it as the greatest time to have a Christmas Eve feast.
And although Tiara and another one of the younger neighbor kids had already fallen asleep, she still served one of the best meals she'd ever made, as well as the snacks the others had brought.
After they finished their dinner, some of the younger families had left to put their children to sleep. Nene offered to take Tiara back to Kou's house, since Teru was hanging out with his older friends.
"I can go with you!" Amane offered. "It's um, cold and dark outside, so let's go..together.." He finished nervously.
Nene smiled and nodded, tossing him his coat from the coat rack. The temperatures were dropping steadily, so everyone was secretly hoping for a white Christmas.
Amane scooped Tiara up into his arms off the couch, adjusting her to head out the door.
"Here," Nene said as she opened the door.
He hummed in thanks and stepped out into the cold. Tiara snuggled closer into his arms.
"So," Nene started as they began the walk. "She was trying to tell me something, but Aoi came back just in time," She laughed.
"Oh?"
"I do wish I had a chance to hear what she was gonna say, it sounded mischievous."
Amane laughed quietly, trying not to wake up the sleeping child in his arms.
They walked in silence for a bit, Nene shivering quietly.
"Are you cold?" He asked.
"Um, not really. It's just because it's night time, you know?" She responded.
"I already forgot that it's almost Christmas, can you believe that?"
Nene breathed a sigh slowly. "Yeah, it's crazy isn't it? I feel like we met recently."
Amane agreed.
"There's Kou's house. Teru gave me his key so we can just quickly put her in her bed."
Nene unlocked the door for Amane and followed him up the stairs, setting Tiara down in her bed and closing the door behind them. Amane sighed and leaned against the wall, relishing in the houses warmth.
"Wanna stay here for a little bit?" Nene asked, Amane quickly nodding, not wanted to go back out into the cold.
They sat down on the living room couch and relaxed. Nene looked at the clock and saw it was already 11.
"There's only an hour until Christmas!" Nene pointed out.
Amane looked up and the clock too. "I heard Aoi had something big planned for midnight. She's been telling everybody but wouldn't tell me what it was,"
Nene scooted closer to Amane's body, thanking the darkness for hiding the glowing blush on her face.
"S-sorry," she whispered. "They don't have the heater on in here.."
She felt Amane nod and shift beside her, before feeling his arm wrap around her shoulder, like he did earlier that night.
Nene almost fell asleep, with the dark room and comforting presence of Amane's body next to her, but was quickly woken up by Amane sitting up abruptly.
"It's 11:30, we've been gone for a really long time, we should probably head back!" Nene gasped and sat up too, pulling her coat back over her shoulders and heading out the door.
