Chapter Ten

Today is Christmas and I woke up to no decorations, no gifts and not even a Christmas tree to put it under. Even though I'm used to it. I still wish that things were different. We went on Christmas break about two days ago and I didnt even realize the day I left school early with Tyler, that it was our last day until next year.

I couldn't get Tyler off my mind. The main thing I was concerned about was how he was taking things since he found out the news about his mom. Tyler is really a great friend and he's also like a brother I never had, so I'm definitely concerned right now. I just wish Jade could see how much of a great guy he is, but that's not really my business to keep dwelling on. My phone buzzed and I looked down and read a message from my dad saying

" Come outside."

I smiled, pulled the covers off my body, sat up and slipped on my slippers. I rushed to the bathroom and washed my face and brushed my teeth. With the rest of the money my dad gave me, I decided to spend it on personal hygiene products that I needed. I was happy that I didn't have to worry about soap, toothpaste or even toilet paper to wipe my ass for a little while. I also brought some deodorant and new underwear and pajamas.

After I was done in the bathroom, I put my coat on and walked towards the front door. When I opened the door my dad was standing there with a colorful light up, ugly Christmas sweater on and two wrapped presents in his hand. The big smile he had plastered on his face made me smile as well until I realized he was trying to step inside the house. I extended my hand and slightly pushed him back as I stepped all the way out the house, closing the door behind me.

" Dad, what's all this?" I asked, giggling at his sweater and the reindeer slippers he had on his feet like it wasnt snow on the ground.

" I wanted to surprise my baby girl. I know your mom and I took the joy out of the holidays a long time ago, but I want to change that if it's not too late. I know you are almost an adult now." He said, smiling.

" Aww dad, I appreciate that. It's never too late, but what's up with the light up sweater? You're blinding me." I asked, laughing and using my arms to cover my eyes.

" What's wrong with my sweater? Wait until you see the one I got you." He said, grinning. " Also why couldn't I come inside the house?" He asked.

I stood there quietly not knowing how to answer that. I haven't told my dad what happened last time my mom saw him here. Honestly him being this close to the house made me very nervous , but I tried not to show it too much. Before I could respond to him, I saw Ms Hannah, Sam and Shay walking towards my house with gifts in their hands as well.

" What the hell dad." I said, looking over his shoulders.

" Oh , I told them where I was going today and they wanted to come bring you gifts as well." He said, after turning around to see what I was referring to.

I stood there and shook my head. He could have given me a heads up that his bougie ass family were coming. I would have made sure I put actual clothes on and tried to look more presentable. Then they had the nerve to bring Sam, like she wasnt judgemental as fuck. The chick already thought she was better than me. I put my feelings aside and smiled once they finally approached us.

" Hey Gabrielle. Sorry to just pop up at your house, but the girls and I wanted to come surprise you as well." Ms Hannah said, smiling at me.

" Yes, this is very much a surprise." I said, looking towards Sam.

I looked at her and noticed she had this smile on her face that I couldn't read. I couldn't tell if it was a genuine smile or a fake one because the smile looked like it hurt and she looked awkward doing it.
