JAMES HAD NOTICED over the past few weeks that Nesrin was acting strange.

She was acting guarded around him; he could tell. She wasn't smiling as much or joking with him as much. Her light-hearted insults had started to lessen, and he found that he missed them desperately.

Was she having second thoughts about dating him?

Merlin, he hoped not. She was most possibly the best thing that had ever happened to him. Even now that they were dating, his thoughts still lingered on her long after midnight and long before the first rays of light. He didn't think he could survive it if something happened between them.

Meanwhile, Nesrin was busy anticipating her parents' next move. She wasn't sure what to expect, when to expect it, and how she was going to go about confronting them.

The worry was slowly turning into panic, and she didn't know what to do.

And then it happened.

She was in the corridor on her way to her dorm room before heading over to her and James's special spot when she heard two boys talking in front of her. She wasn't paying attention until they mentioned James.

"...fell off his broom during Quidditch practice! It was fucking scary, man."

"What the hell? Is he okay?"

"I don't know—"

Nesrin abruptly spun around and sped-walked straight to the hidden meadow she was supposed to meet James at. She spotted him the second she reached there and instantly went up to him, delicately grabbing his face and inspecting his body for any injuries.

"Nes, what are you—"

"Shut up. Are you okay? I heard these two guys talking, and they said—and they didn't even fucking know...Shit, are you alright? Did you get injured? I don't—"

James cupped her cheeks with his hands, leaning forward to catch her mouth in his to get her to stop talking.

"Nes," he said when he pulled away. He looked at her with such a sweet gaze that she had the sudden urge to photograph him at that second. "I'm fine. Look at me. Thankfully, Minnie was there during practice, so she casted a spell to help break the fall. Not a single injury on me."

Nesrin let out a sigh of relief before her body tensed up again.

"Do you..." she trailed off. "How did you fall?"

He shrugged, not noticing her discomfort nor the guilt in her expression. "Not sure. I could've sworn I had full control of the broom, but I guess not. Anyway, it was a one-time thing. It won't happen again, don't worry."

She grabbed his face and placed her lips on his. It was the only thing she could do to stop the tears from falling.

His lips met hers, and she responded more fiercely than she ever had before. She clutched at the back of his neck, tugging on his hair hard enough to feel his groan drowned out in her mouth.

She kissed him as hard as she could because she knew it may be the very last time.

Later, when she got back to her dorm, a folded note was sitting on her bed. Her brows furrowed as she walked over to it and picked it up.

In her mother's neat writing, it said:

This is only the start.

And suddenly, Nesrin knew what she had no choice but to do.
