The Body

My expression looks tauntingly back at me

my eyes reflected in the mirror stare desperately

the body

Cocooned in layers upon layers upon layers

Layers that build me and strip away,

The color in my eyes

In those eyes that stare strongly with knives

Skinning me alive

My hands grip and grope

Pulling feverishly at my skin

Skin that pools around me

And fills my hands

the muscles that fall along my face

Drooping and sagging

Dripping, like tears upon the cheek

This wretched body that holds me down

Legs that waste my potential

And I'm falling, writhing away

My sap sucked dry by the sun

Then I'm barren

And shrunk like dried fruit on a floor
