"What? Are you mad?" He stared at me. I got embarrassed.
"Then fine, I don't care. I'll be off then" I snapped, turning my heels away from him.
"Del!... Wait!" He stopped in front of me.
"Get out of my sight! I wanna go home!" I whined.
"COULD YOU PLEASE STOP WHINING! I HAD ENOUGH OF YOU!" He yelled.
No one dared even teachers yell directly at my face. Even my brothers and my parents, they never yell at me even if I'm annoying.
I took a step back, frightened of Maxon. For the first time in my life, I'm afraid at my best friend, my friend of years. He changed since the first news about us being betrothed. His face softened after his anger came out. I know all of them heard him, and know this.
"I'm sorry" He took a step forward, I took a step back as an answered.
"I HATE YOU!" I spat, running past him.
Tears are forming as I ran towards the house, I found myself inside the room we both share, I grabbed my things then locked inside the bathroom, curling myself into a ball on the tub with running water above me. Tears are mixed with water, I didn't bother to feel if it's cold or hot.
Then constant knocking came, they all tried to tell me to come out but failed when I didn't reply. For the second time, It was Maxon who came to call me out.
"Del. please open the door. I'm sorry if what I've said, I shouldn't do it. I'm sorry,"
I didn't budge.
"Please open the door, I don't care if you won't talk to me or forgive me but please open the door," Another silence from me. I decided to let the water engulf me.
.................
Maxon's POV
"As our respect, We won't confront you. But sort this things out. You know her personality, she's just testing you or in need of things when she asked you. Sort this things out" Mathew says. Wendy emerged from our room.
"She locked herself inside the bathroom, she won't reply" Wendy informed. "And, Maxon, you know about the guy that's creeping Delancy. He didn't buy your little threatening nor her snapping, she asked you to do it because I told her to give a show, to tell him that she's off the market... She's actually acknowledging herself as engaged, she's wearing your ring everyday, never taking it off. You should be happy that she said yes"
"Get her out of that damn room and we'll be fine again" Amielle says.
"I'm so disappointed in you, Maxon. Where's the Maxon we all know? You told me once that you won't be like your father but look what it got you" America snapped, pulling Cal with her in Del's room.
I'm a total mess!
I knocked and beg her to come out but still silence. I leaned my ear at the door, I heard water running. She must've drowned herself. No! She won't do it.
"Delancy? Del! DEL! Open this door!"
Silence. My heart is pounding and so is my fists in the wood door.
"Please! God damn it!"
I turned the doorknob impatiently, then banging my body against it. I failed miserably.
"Is there any keys to the bathroom?" I asked, I'm sweating and shaking.
"Why? We won't give it to you, Solve your own problems" Wendy shot back.
"There's water running. I need to get her out!" I raised my voice.
"What?" Wendy turned to me.
"The keys are at the foyer's drawer. Get her out" Maven answered.
I ran, snatching the keys then hurriedly opened the door. In her clothes, she's into the water, hair covering her face, the ring still on her finger but no bubbles came out. I didn't hesitate to take her off.
"Del? Del? Delancy?!" I shook her face, pumping her chest to take the door out. I breathed out the air I've been holding when she coughed.
"Thank goodness you're alive!" I gasped, hugging her wet body.
"Why? I was dead?"
"Almost but we'll never let you" I dared a wink at her and to my surprise she smiled.
"Thanks. And I'm sorry, I've been whiny and well, over acting. I shouldn't do it" She shook her head.
"No. I'm sorry. Truly sorry for yelling at you. We almost lost you" I whispered, looking at her blurry green eyes.
"Almost! Ha!" She laughed.
I pressed my lips against hers, giving what she asked for when I yelled at her. Her fingers found my hair, giving it a little tug making me unconsciously groan, she's really a pro to this, Delancy let me deepen the kiss. But we were cut short when they barged into the room.
"Delancy?- Oh!" Wendy gasped, shocked to see our lips pulled away.
"He sorted it out" Cal sang, smirking at me.
"I know what you're thinking America and yes he does" Delancy winked at her then she laughed. Clearly, she read her mind.
"Both of you dry yourselves. Dinner's ready and have fun!" Maven gave me a secret thumbs up before he closed the door.
"If you don't mind. I'll take a shower" She turned her heels away from me.
Shower?
"Wait!" I called out.
"If you're thinking that I will drown myself? I won't" She winked at me then shut the door.
I know Delancy since the day I could remember. Our fathers are best friends an that made us visit them every year. She's really outgoing and friendly, she's not that hard to talk to.
Its not impossible for me to love her deeply. I'm lucky I've been betrothed to my best friend and not to anyone. The ghost of her lips are still hot on mine. I got the forever to have her lips on mine and as her partner till the end of time.
I got lost in my thoughts that I don't noticed she's already out.
"Going to sit there and think about that kiss? or move your bum and eat dinner?"
"Both" I smirked, sneaking a kiss on hers and ran inside the bath.
