"Shit!"
"Fucking shit!"
I ran wildly as I tried my best to escape. In the midst of it all I had to leave behind my cloak. It was stupid of me but it was the only way I could trigger the emergency distraction I set up.
I ran the moment the creak sounded out, I had no time to worry on whether they'd see me because I was gonna get caught either fucking way! Jesus, I'm still jumpy and I know for a damn fact I'm not safe. As much as I'd like to be able to use the damn 'power-ups' everyone I know has I don't have any of that special shit. I'm just stuck with running in the desert at night for now.
It wasn't a secret that they probably would be on high alert right now, hell they might even be actively looking for me! It was nothing short of a miracle I didn't hear any engines behind me. As I ran and ran, I realised there wasn't much else I could do but make it back to where they were. Calming what breaths I was able to control, I began running conservatively instead of a dead-on sprint. I may be somewhat of a runner but going all out for who knows how far is just brain-dead.

I arrived after what felt like an eternity and probably was. I was completely spent. I finally let myself walk, gathering what little composure I had left, readying myself to tell them what had happened. When they came into view, I felt an uneasy feeling. They were sitting directly across from each other, but something serious had happened. Whatever the case, it was unimportant right now.
"Listen!"
It had grabbed both of their attention.
"So, find out anything good?"
Micky was the first to speak, and Evelynn looked as if she didn't have or want to say anything.
"About that... you see, I kind of... messed up."
"Excuse me, kid?"
I got the stern look I'd gotten a hundred times before.
"Look, they had some random important people show up. How on earth was I supposed to know? Plus, they didn't even have any entryway we could have used. I needed to listen in, so I did as you instructed."
"And you got caught."
"No...not exactly."
"Uh huh, explain what the differences are."
"Okay, I'm in front of you."
"And?"
"And..."
"I... wasn't hurt?"
"If I ever need a fresh set of eyes, I'll be counting on you. But no, smartass. They know they got company, don't they?"
"More or less..."
He let out a sigh.
"Christ, leave it to a kid to make a big mess of things. Still..."
"Still? Wait, you're not thinking about continuing, are you?"
"If I am?"
"Micheal! That is absurd! We both know that'd be a suicide run, use your senses here! I already told you that us going here in the first place was trouble!"
"You didn't say that exactly."
"You know it was what I meant!"
"Calm down... nothing bad will happen."
"You've no right to say that!"
"Not that bad anyway"
He grabbed his backpack from the car and threw me a new cloak after saying his piece.
"In we go, better keep your eyes open this time."
This is unbelievable!
"No! I'm not going! I've told you so many times! This was a bad idea, and I'm out! I'm not going, and neither is Evelynn!"
I noticed Evelynn didn't make a physical gesture of agreement with me out of the corner of my eye. While it was a small detail, it made me think she wasn't currently paying attention to the situation. But I was probably overthinking things.
"I'm not doing anything. You can't make me either. So either you go by yourself, or we get in the car and go back."
Micheal's demeanour shifted slightly after I said it. He looked at me, and this time, unlike the others, he looked me in the eyes. He gave me a hard stare. He didn't say anything either, but it wasn't particularly necessary. I was able to tell.
He was tired, I wasn't sure why, but he was tired. His eyes made him appear a hundred years older than he was, and he carried the guilt of a veteran to boot. This wasn't normal... there was something bigger going on here.
"You didn't come here for a routine raid, did you?"
It wasn't a question.
"Finally figured it out? Y/n."
"What is it then? What's making you this desperate?"
He didn't answer.
"Tell me! What's making you this desperate to go back to the place I lost my sister!"
"I can't kid."
"Why!"
"I just can't."
He paused before saying,
"You might know later... but not now."
"I... Micheal... please... just tell me, why!"
"...."
"Fucking hell Micheal, all this bullshit. I'm old enough now! I'm not some brat you have to take care of anymore cause his big sister is gone! I can handle the truth! Tell me!"
"Y/n, Li-
"You can't keep things from me because I'm too fucking young! So tell me, tell me what's going on! Te-
"Listen!"
He interrupted me. He spoke again, taking deep, heavy breaths.
"Y'n... I know. I know I kept you in the dark about a lot of things. I know you're upset about it and more importantly, I know you blame yourself and think you are too weak for responsibility. I'm sorry, But just this one more time. I need you to trust me on this, it can even be the last time you do so, just please... trust me on this."
He kept his gaze fixed on me. His voice was quieter than I was used to hearing. I wouldn't have known if he hadn't broken eye contact, but his eyes were welling up with tears. He was still breathing harshly, and his entire form showed visible exhaustion.
As angry as I was, I couldn't bring myself to say no. Despite everything I felt at that moment, a bigger part of me wanted to trust the man I spent years together with, the very same that took me under my wing when I had no one. And so, with the much smaller part of me holding out dying down, I decided I'd listen, but this would be the last until I get answers.
"Alright, but I want answers after this is done."
"Thank you. Don't worry, It'll make sense when it's over."
He relaxed before asking.
"Aside from almost getting caught, what did you learn?"
I told him everything I could remember.
