It took hours of wandering through the sand until I reached it. I'd never forget what it looked like but I could also never feel safe because of it. So here I was scouting it out.
There were three main entryways. All three were crowded with guards. The walls that bordered the building were lined with electric wire, so no climbing. The last time we came here, we reasoned that going from underneath would be to cliche and predictable of a scenario. With no real way of checking whether they had taken care of that possibility, we decided to choose the opposite. To get in from above.
The hot air balloon we used was applicable because as I was told, it wasn't something people would ever think would be in this dump. Not even the so-called "government" would have foreseen it. Proof being that it worked. Unfortunately, we couldn't repeat it. that balloon went pop years ago. Stuck with no other alternative, I'll need to dig for something else we could find or use.
As I approached, one of the gates came into view. It was about as I expected, littered with guards and no real blindspot. Vehicles did come and go but that was a rare occurrence. I saw or heard trucks in intervals but as I said, there were long breaks in between. Figuring there was no point looking for a crack in a reinforced wall, I looked elsewhere. The other gates wouldn't be much different, even so, I had to check. My figure was already small, add in the fact that I was crouching and wearing a black cloak in the darkness of the night, and I was sure no one would see me unless they were actively trying to.
As I snuck around to each gate, I tried locating any air ducts or sewage pipes on the exterior of the building. Admittedly it was a page I took out of my story books but if it works why not try it? I was disappointed not long after. There were none, or if there were, it simply wasn't big enough for any person to go through.
10s of minutes passed and I reached the conclusion that there was no real physical entryway for a bunch of thieves. Although, just because there was no way directly, doesn't mean we couldn't make one ourselves. For that, I needed information, for information, I needed to obtain it. How? In these situations there are often at least one or two people with a loose tongue, I'd simply have to be near enough.
Content with my new plan, I went back to the gates one by one. Keeping my ears open for anything that may be of value. After the first two gates, I lost a bit of confidence but with no other way, I carried on. The third gate didn't give me anything either but there was the implication that they would say something eventually. This gate particularly had a higher number of stationed men. I didn't get why, but with this many people, I'm bound to find a domino effect of words.
If I was going to stay near the gate for a prolonged period of time, I had to ensure I was in a safe spot. For all my current 'invisibility', it would be rendered useless the moment anyone decided to walk my way or if God really wanted to screw me over, I'm sure he'd think of much worse. Nevertheless, I tried to find an appropriate area to use. Using something Micheal told me, I worked with the process of elimination.
The guards, especially with this many, would look around and cover area far too great to be in their vicinity and on the same level. This removed any bushes or structures that I could have hidden behind, it was just far too risky.
Next, since this was a gate, it would mean that the vehicles although rare, will light up both the gate and some walls. This was eliminated anywhere near the actual gate. Should I be spotted hiding by headlights, I'd rather get caught than have to hear from Micheal. Thus, this meant that both ground level and anywhere near the gate were off-limits. This left only the watchtowers on either side. They didn't move the light much, probably guessed that no one would actually break in. Lazy dullards. Good for me though, hiding under them would work well.
