The moment he spoke, tens of guards appeared out of nowhere. All surrounding Evelynn. As I looked at her, she only looked back with one of betrayal. She looked hurt and furious.
"What are you doing?"
I panicked as I tugged on the gatekeeper's clothes.
"Why are they surrounding her?"
He finally looked back at me and my blood ran cold.
His eyes didn't look soo friendly anymore. They barely held any emotion.
"She was supposed to be kept a secret. We'll have to contain her."
Contain? I looked back at Evelynn while she was struggling against the guards. She put up a bit of a struggle but it wasn't long before she caved in. Pinned to the floor she struggled against her restraints.
"She didn't do anything bad!"
"You don't know anything about her."
I didn't want this to happen to her, she just wanted to see the outside. Heck, she didn't even know what age was. She didn't deserve this. I tried to run to help her but I was held back by the gatekeeper.
"Don't put yourself in more trouble than you're already in y/n."
I struggled against him as Evelynn was slowly dragged away.
Something about this moment seemed familiar.
Someone I couldn't save because I was too weak.
I didn't want that to happen again.
I couldn't.
My pocket began to shift around.
The purple stick from the orb seemed to have gotten a mind of its own as well, it flew out and attacked the gatekeeper. I didn't think much during the process, I was just running towards Evelynn. I readied myself to try taking her from her captors by force. It was stupid, yes. But I wasn't thinking. Many guards stood in front of me ready to put me down too. The stick however came back, the orb I saw not long ago too seemed to fly towards it above us. The guards seem to recognize it but I wasn't bothered. My only goal was to make sure I could get Evelynn safe.
The guards were no longer focusing on me or Evelynn. It made it easier to get to her. Looking back at the orb it seemed to be cracking under the pressure of the stick.
Something told me to hold Evelynn as tight as I could and brace myself.
So I did.
I closed my eyes while I held her near.
My back felt air clash against it, and my ears felt as if I'd been standing next to a grenade. Everything was ringing.
As the ringing stopped I looked around, no one was there. Apart from me and Evelynn. As I looked at her she seemed dazed. I didn't want to stay here longer, whatever happened I'd figure it out later. I grabbed her hand and dragged her out of there.
As I went to the tunnel, I was going to open the entryway with the key.
"Boy! You're making a mistake! You don't understand what you're doing! Leave her be and turn yourself in. Nothing bad will happen to you if you do! I'm trying to warn you here kid!"
The gatekeeper's voice sounded out. So he was still here.
Firmly grasping Evelynn's hand I turn to get a look at him.
"I already have a pretty crappy life. I don't mind it getting worse, I'm not going to lose the only thing I have though."
"Really? Are you sure it's worth it kid? You're going to be wanted if they find out who you are! That thing is going to cause you a boatload of trouble!"
"Even so, I'm not going to betray my morals. I'll face what happens."
"Don't tell me I didn't warn you, kid. You're going to regret it."
He said before he passed out.
I didn't bother with him as I finally opened the door to the tunnel.
After a while of dragging Eve through it, we finally reached the outside. She finally seemed to regain her composure.
"You... saved me.... why?"
She looked lost not in thought but as if everything she knew of was wrong.
"I'm not too sure, but... I didn't want someone innocent to be taken away again."
"Again?"
"D-Don't mind it."
She simply stared. She looked around a bit before focusing back at me.
"I've never made it out before, I don't know what to do now."
"Oh... I mean... you could follow me for a while if you want."
"You wouldn't mind?"
"No."
She smiled.
"Okay then, I'll be following you."
Cool! I got a friend, not what I was looking for but hey, friends are always good company. Although I feel as if I'm missing something. Oh.
"Shit! I got nothing to sell!"
.
.
Evelynn simply stood behind him. Watching him with her glowing eyes. She was right, he was different. He felt different too. He was very lively, his emotions were almost worn on his sleeve. It wasn't pain fear or anguish she felt, no... it felt much more pleasant. It was odd to her, she never felt it in her time in the darkness nor outside it. Yet here it was. All in the form of a young boy in front of her. She felt happy, genuine happiness and optimism.
A smile that reached her eyes graced her face as she looked at y/n. She whispered to herself
"Thank you."
