"Jake, I don't think this is a good idea."
"Ahhh, come on. You'll be fine. It's your day off, who says we can't explore a bit?"
"It's not the exploring, Jake. It's the fact that you insist on me being this high up." You tighten your grip on his hair, barely even affecting him as he holds on to your ankles.
Sure, it's comfortable sitting on his backpack and being able to have a sense of security that he wouldn't let you fall - but you can barely stand the vertigo from an almost 9-and-a-half-foot height.
He lowly chuckles before terrorizing you with a small hop, just barely enough to freak you out and cause you to yelp in horror.
He's having fun with being this much in control. "I promise. I won't drop you."
"Augustine is going to kill you for messing around, you do know that, right?"
He simply scoffs at the thought.
"I mean it, what if you step in something poisonous or break something?"
"We'll be fine." He insists. "I'll let you down when we get closer to Norm. He's only—" Lifting his watch, he clicks around until he finds the GPS app. "-ten minutes down this way."
"And you're sure he won't be concerned when he finds me in a human state? I wasn't even sure we were supposed to go this far out."
"Not without an Avatar." He corrects. "So you're fine. The military guys usually take one or two drivers as it is, just for an extra bit of protection. I won't let anything happen to you."
"Alright, alright." You pat the top of his head gently.
It's jarring being at such an angle, watching every step he takes clear what would take ten of your own.
"We're almost there." He reassures as his watch starts to beep as it alerts for Norm's location. "How's the weather up there?"
"Oh, god. You didn't just ask me that."
He laughs at the silly banter. "Of course. And? Yknow what? This may help you get used to being so high up once your avatar is done."
"I can't wait to see her when she is. So much hair I can do styles with. It'll be nice to not feel so afraid when I join you and the others."
"And finally explore other things." He teases.
"Ah shush." You whack at the back of his neck. "-You'll just be glad when you don't have to be so cautious with me anymore."
"That is one of many upsides."
Norm calls out to both of you as Jake turns the corner deeper into the forest. For now, it's just him and one of his assistants.
