Leah gently released my shoulders and looked into the doorway

Leah gently released my shoulders and looked into the doorway. As Aurora came back, she didn't say a word, she just wiped the tears in the corners of her eyes away with her fingers. She crouched down in front of me and spoke quietly.

"I couldn't do anything. They just left."

Her eyes burned with tears, her lips quivered, yet she still tried to hide it. Leah gently took Aurora's hand.

"Whatever my dad had in mind, we must not think about it."

I raised my puffy eyes to her and stared more intently.

"I wanted to go with them, but he strictly told me to stay at home. With you." Aurora snorted.

I nodded as I slid off Leah's side. Maybe Apollo was right and we shouldn't interfere in these matters. I could tell from Apollo's words that whatever happened, men tend to fix these things in their way.

But who needs D'Angelo's family for that? Why especially Leonardo D'Angelo need to be involved in this?

Everything is so confusing, so how can I sit idly by? I'm afraid to admit to myself that I might know why.

Aurora shrugged as she opened the image of the message flashing on her phone. Elijah's written letters flashed across the screen, assuring us that Apollo would be fine.

"There's nothing more we can do, Gabriella," Aurora murmured with a sigh, "We'll have to keep calm and hope for the best. I trust Elijah."

"Me too," I added in a doubtful voice, "but only because you trust him. In the end, you know who he works for."

Aurora whimpered as she continued.

"Come on, today is your birthday. We need to listen to Dad's advice and channel this sadness elsewhere."

How in the hell am I supposed to do that when all I can think of is what happened and how the D'Angelo family got in the middle of this?

It was hard to pull away, but I gradually let go of my fingers digging into the floor. Hearing Aurora and Leah's words and seeing the concern in the girls' eyes made had to make me feel relieved.

"Yes. You are right."

Aurora and Leah stood up and stretched out their arms to lift me. I gave in to their hands and jumped off the ground.

Aurora's calmness and Leah's strange apathy were frightening.

How can they be so calm?

After all, Apollo returned. Healthy, but with significantly damaged sides. The girls pushed open the door of my room and let me inside. They put me on the bed and slopped next to me.

Who's responsible for that kind of behavior, implicated towards Apollo? Terrible thoughts pierced me to the depths of my soul.

What if the same devil my mother has been hiding me from all my life has finally gotten its way? And more frighteningly, found us?
