I sipped from the glass in my hand, filled with the barrel-scented liquid, and looked around while Alexander and Anton Solcnev interrupted each other, babbling about their past exploits.
I didn't want to seem impolite, so although I was listening, I secretly kept looking for Gabriella.
I had promised myself not to go near that girl at any cost. I convinced myself that it was all because I had signed a deal with her family, but life is so ironic. It's been just a week, and the contract that carried so much honor for the D'Angelo family is now shattered.
What have I done?
Of course, in the eyes of society, she belongs to my family; it is assumed that Gabriella is my partner, so, technically, I shouldn't blame myself for that action - after all, I initiated the kiss, because she provoked me.
I couldn't listen to those lips cursing me anymore.
If only she knew what I would do if that contract never existed in the first place.
I gulped down the last drops of whiskey. I wanted to wash her away from myself as soon as possible, but she was everywhere.
I must have drifted too far from the Solcnev brothers' conversation.
"So, what do you think, Mr. D'Angelo?" Dmitriy Solcnev asked, inhaling the cigar smoke.
A girl passing by with a tray stumbled as I put down the empty glass and turned to Dmitriy Solcnev.
"Excuse me for a moment."
The man nodded, but his sons exchanged mocking glances.
Even I was disgusted by the younger Solcnev brothers' behavior with other underground groups. Yes, every family interaction has limits when confronting other families, but as long as Dmitriy leads their brotherhood group, those brats shouldn't even speak badly about other criminal groups.
I rushed to the nearest bathroom. Closing the door, I felt my eardrums relax - voices and music's din subsided. I turned on the tap and, putting my hands under the icy water, splashed my face for a while.
I stared into the mirror above the sink for a long time. I tried to find any solution to this situation, but nothing came to mind.
Nothing will wash away this feeling, I growled under my breath.
I grabbed the towel lying on the sink and roughly patted my wet face, trying to erase the memory of her, her lips, and her scent.
