SNOW
THE COMPUTER RANG, AND rang in the silent, empty library, as the librarian stared at me, when the phone, or should I say computer, picked up. "Who is this?" Max picked up and answered. Her face was pixelated and blurry. "Oh-- I see, you're the Sewn-on-wings chick. Iggy gave you our number I'm guessing." Obviously, I thought to myself. "What do you want?" She sighed and rested her faceless, head on her hand,
"Erm, I have to ask you something," her head lifted up, in interest. "You know how I told you my pack was kidnapped?" I tried my best from keeping tears coming to my eyes. Emphasis on tried. "They were taken by scientists. You were created by scientists, right? Would you have any idea as to where they were taken?"
Max's eyes widened so much that I could see them through the pixelated, screen.
"Do you know the name of the person who took you?" Max leaned closer to the screen, earnestly,
"Yeah, his name was... Derek, I think." I felt I was getting closer to answers, but also sensing something wrong.
"I think I might know where..." she said hesitantly, getting ready to close the laptop. "Meet me at las Vegas, Nevada!" She finished suddenly and the call ended. It was then I realized, the now full library, had everyone staring at me and the computer. Okay. Long flight. For Aaron. I ran out of the library noticing a man in a black uniform and cap, in the corner of my eye. I froze inside, my face turning pale. Instinctively I flipped out my wings, and flew out, seeing flashes of cameras and hearing people exclaiming, and recording. I wanted to hurl right there, and just be back with Aaron. Instead, I flew higher and higher until everyone was a flashing, speck. Ok just go west. That's it. West.MAX
"school's out." I told the flock at the cafeteria table. Jeez, I don't know how many times I've had to say that. "Iggy, you know that girl you gave our number to?" He nodded, clearly embarrassed. Which was weird because he almost never showed any mushy, emotions, "her flock was taken by Jeb's brother." I still don't know why they call themselves a pack. Nudge rolled her big, Brown eyes from behind her curly, hair gazing at the sixteen year old she was in love with, sighing heavily.
"Why couldn't we ever just be normal?" She complained, gesturing to her back.
I gave her a don't-you-dare-bring-it-up face. Nudge, a while ago, for the past five months wanted her wings cut off. But obviously I said no. "Well, maybe because every gol' dang, scientist wants us or other people, in this case, for experiments." Nudge flattened her face between her laid out arms on the table. "We'll finish eating, then we're gone." I announced finally. "And nudge, you're not staying this time." As she did a couple months ago, when we were getting in the submarine. "Dylan!" I snapped, grabbing his arm away from the swooning, girls around him. "We're leaving, let's go." Whoa, I don't know what that was. He raised his eyebrows at me, and put his hands up defensively. After eating lunch, nudge went to say her goodbyes to the idiotic, dumbbell, she obsessed over. But then-- something caught my eye, everyone's eyes.
Nudge opened her wings as he stood there gaping.
"Freak!" He yelled and shoved her aside, "Freak!" He repeated, tugging at her wings. "Everybody lo-" I jumped up and kicked him in his chest, making a whoosh, sound as he fell over. I hunched nudge underneath my arm, and started running.
"Dylan! Gazzy! Iggy! Ang-" I stopped in my tracks. I couldn't tell if I was hyperventilating or not. It didn't matter though, because once a teacher saw nudge, she had to call security. A bunch of men with sunglasses, ran after us. I pushed nudge forward and opened my own wings, swapping someone in the head with them. We burst through the school windows. Nudge, Dylan, Iggy, and- gazzy's still inside. I turned around making an air screeching, sound and went for gazzy, who was shoving food in his pockets. He fell over when a guard jumped at him, but flipped backwards as gazzy kicked him. Atta' boy. he turned to me and let his wings take the air as he swooped up to me,
"What're'ya waiting for, max?" He snickered, and launched off, with me taking up behind him. Okay, here we go.
