(Three Years Later)
---
My brunette curls flustered behind me in the wind. My arms spread out from my sides like an eagle, standing out to balance me. The force of the wind pushed me back, as I stood facing over the cliff edge.
Some people may call me crazy for doing this, but I guess I'm one for taking risks.
The fresh air wafted in through my nose and out my mouth. I closed my eyes feeling the cold breeze brush against my skin.
I've been coming to this place a lot recently. Just the calming vibe I get from being here, outside the forest, is enough to keep me returning here daily.
Opening my eyes, I took one last look over the tree tops below the rocky cliff face, and let myself fall backwards into the soft grass.
Laughing, I curled up into a ball on the ground thinking about how crazy I must look right now.
"What's up with you, Chuckles?" Cole asked with a snort.
When did he get here?
"Eh, nothing much." I replied, biting my tongue to stop the laughter.
"Well, we have to get back to the pack house now. Derek is getting worried." Cole sighed, pulling me up from the ground.
I brushed the grass from my denim shorts, and straightened my t-shirt. I looked up at Cole through my long lashes, and smiled playfully.
"I'll race you," I challenged.
"Oh, you really think you can beat me?" Cole snorted, getting ready to sprint into the forest behind us.
"I don't think so," I shrugged, "I know so."
"Okay then, on the count of three." Cole speaks, cracking his knuckles in motivation.
"One," I say slowly.
"Two," Cole chuckles menacingly.
"Three!" We both yell together, pushing our bodies into a sprint.
I smile to myself, as I realise that I have the advantage of being in the lead whilst I rush through the forest. However, Cole soon catches up to my speed, shoving my shoulder forcefully once he's close enough. I fall back against a tree and slump to the ground, dust filling the air around me.
"Cole, you cheater!" I yell, frustrated.
I get to my feet, and start running again, ignoring Cole's laughter.
"Don't be such a sore loser!" He hollers over his shoulder.
I huff out my anger, pushing my legs to go faster as I approach Cole. I manage to catch up to his pace, so now we are running shoulder to shoulder.
"Don't think that you've won this just yet, Cole." I assure deviously. "You've clearly underestimated me."
"Prove it." He throws at me, keeping at a consistent speed.
"Okay, but prepare to look stupid!" I call out, before I run off ahead of him.
My legs carry me out of the forest and towards the pack house. I already see pack members training in groups on the field, and Derek in the far corner observing them.
I reach the back door of the house, and stop to rest on the porch. I lean back against the wall, and pant heavily to get air back into my lungs.
Cole soon joins me, looking red and flustered.
"Remind me... Remind me never to race you ever again." He wheezes, and collapses onto his knees in an exhausted manner.
"I told you that you underestimated me." I laugh, wiping the sweat from my forehead.
