I slouched in my chair whilst waiting for the bell to ring, signaling the end of the day. It all went quiet after I left drama, no teasing or harassment, no awkward stares or being shoved into lockers. I just walked to and fro, from lesson to lesson without any hassle. Talk about a weight being lifted from your shoulders.

"Miss.Fern, I have a message here from your drama teacher, she wants to see you later after school." My history teacher handed the yellow sticky note back to a pale looking boy, smiling and gesturing towards the door for him to leave with a small wave.

"Thank you miss." I smiled weakly. What on earth could she possibly want with me now? Did she not feel satisfied enough with dampening the mood on an already bad day?

Curiosity filled my mind, but was soon replaced with a headache. As I sat there, the headache grew in pain every time I began to start taking notes from the board.

What on earth is going on?

The bell roared through the school, confirming everyone's freedom. I grabbed my bag and shoved my books into it, whilst checking my phone for messages.

Need to talk to you, meet me behind the gym. Lissie

Questions overcrowded my head. Why would Lissie suddenly be contacting me? Now I think about it, she was the one who broke the news that she was leaving our friendship for a 'better life', with people who pay no attention to her what so ever. She just blends into the background like shes not even there, yet she refuses to be seen with me.

Letting curiosity take over me, I plodded over to the gym, forgetting about my after-school discussion with my drama teacher. I casually spun around the corner to come across a flushed looking Lissie. I raised my eyebrows in amusement. The last time I saw Lissie out of breath was when we all had to do five laps around the field, 'preparing' for the school's annual cross-country competition.

"Do you want some help... Water... A doctor maybe?" I prodded.

"S... Susan... Sketchbook... Hurry before-" Lissie gasped for air, reaching into her bag for some water. I grew impatient and began to walk away when a certain clacking oh heels, stopped me in my tracks.

"Don't hurt yourself, Lissie." Susan snorted, leaving a terrified look on Lissie's ghostly face. Susan drew her attention to my bored expression and lazily relaxed posture, aggravating her further. "Am I boring you?" Susan screeched above Lissie catching her breath.

"Well, yes." I smiled. Susan clenched her overly tanned jaw and plastered on a fake smile.

"Has anyone ever told you how self-assured you are?" Susan spat.

"I tell myself that everyday." I chuckled. Her eyes grew wide in dismay, as did Lissie's.

"You're pathetic." Susan hissed, before gracefully spinning around on her heels and headed towards her flashy car.

Lissie looked up at me and smiled, thankful for my help.

"Are you okay?" I smiled back. Lissie grabbed her bag from the floor, that she managed to drop due to shaking so much. I guess the amount of make-up Susan wears, is enough to give people nightmares.

"I am now," Lissie looked at me with sad eyes, "you know that you are still like a sister to me, right?" Her words caught me off guard, causing me to stumble.

I honestly had no feelings towards Lissie after she left me. For the first couple of weeks she completely blocked me out all together. I guess she loosened up from the guilt of seeing me alone everyday.

I smiled in reply and headed back into school, feeling awkward.

I jogged over to my locker and began to pull out books I didn't need from my bag and place them in my locker, so I didn't have to carry them all home. The inside of my locker door was still littered with pictures of eight year old versions of Lissie, Cole and myself on the beach, when my parents decided to rent out a house by the beach for the whole of the Summer break. We didn't realize how big the house was until we got there, so we invited Lissie, Cole and each of their parents along.
