Carlisle's POV
I feel my senses turn not to drink but to protect and serve. Smelling the blood and a soft hint of ocean water with sweet daisies.
"Edward have you ever discussed what you are loudly with Bella at her house?" I ask turning as we all wonder how she knows.
"No. We leave the house or talk late at night. It's no-"
"Of course it is. You can't smell her or hear her. She was probably awake on night and heard everything." Rosalie cuts him off.
"But how did she get the animal's blood?" Jasper says thinking out aloud.
Abbie's POV
I wonder to the hallway of graduation caps, seeing a room full of books, wall to wall. I believe what is Carlisle's office open with a burning candle of lavender.
Entering to see how the family head finds comfort in the medical cases and books filled with medical procedures. On the walls hung a painting of a flower pots and another of kings?
I looked to see three kings, one with blonde hair and other two with similar shades of brown. I feel something when I look at them in the eyes. I see Carlisle hiding in the background of the painting.
I quickly take a picture. I walk away with curiosity on my mind. When the rumble of my stomach is heard so I head down stairs when Esme is there.
"Hello. Ready to eat?" She speaks.
"Yes. I like the room full of books and the lavender candle." I say looking as she plates the food.
"Glad you enjoyed. What type of juice would you like?" Esme reaches in the refrigerator.
"Something red to match everyone else." I smile at her.
"We all wonder how do you know. And why you are different from the others?"
"I am like everyone else though I hear the animals and can copy their traits. They share stories of hunters and you all. I hope this can stay secret between me and your family." I look at her sincerely.
"Yes, we apologize hunting so close to your home." She turns away to start plating food.
"You don't have to force feed yourselves. I'm alright with being the only one eating." I take my plate with chicken pasta and garlic bread.
"Well come this way." She leads to the dining room as everyone is discussing what's the next step.
They stop talking to look at me as I sit down and begin to eat.
"You don't need to worry. I know you heard the conversation out there. After we can ask questions as I am curious too." I tell them, rushing to finish my plate.
"Did you kill the bears?"
"Emmett!!" Esme warns.
"What?" Emmett say.
"No, I don't kill animals. I asked for their blood in return I feed them. It saves them for next time or living out their last days. Same with the mountain lion." I answer.
"Does Bella or Charlie know?" Edward asks me.
"Isabella has no idea. On the other, Charlie knows. I would like to keep it that way." I finish up drinking the last of cranberry juice.
"How are you able to stand around human?" I question.
"Diet" "Practice" "Compassion"
I hear from around the table.
"Why do you have no scent?" Carlisle asks.
I think on his question as they bring up old unwanted memories.
"For my protection against everyone. It brings up unwanted reactions and memories. I have scent at times, but none all." I answer turning away to see the moon shining bright.
"How do you guys protect yourselves?" I ask looking back at them.
"We keep to ourselves. Stay in small towns and move every few years." Carlisle says.
"Though everyone knows you are in a small town, the people talk. The city is big and wild, no one knows you." I say before hearing my phone ring from an incoming call from Matthew.
"Sorry. I have to take this." I debate wether to walk out or not, knowing they will hear everything. I sit at the bench near the front door.
"Hello-" cut off by Matthew yelling.
"I know, you know and it is too early for you to know, Abbie!! You can not know!"
"I only wondered, it was a what if. Maybe she has it wrong, I don't like men. I don't want that." I whisper.
"Abbie, you can't change her path for you. Take it as change maybe develop or growth to your issues. You can not acted on it right now, please!"
"Can I come over tomorrow?" Wanting just to curl up and stay far away from men, other than, dad, Matthew and Evan.
"Yes but please don't do anything. Ok?"
"Ok. See you tomorrow. Bye." I hang up wanting to leave now maybe I can or should I explain. Then my "go home" alarm rings, a blessing. I quickly walk back to the dining room.
"Sorry about that. Thank you for dinner but I must head back home, Charlie awaits." I look at the time to be 8:50pm.
"Of course. School started already." Esme says.
"I'll walk you out." Alice says, walking with me.
"Thank you again and see you at school." I walk to my car and drive home wanting to get far away again.
"Dad, I'm home!" I yell out.
"Have fun?"
"Yup. Heads up I won't go to school tomorrow. Hanging out with a friend from the city." I walk up towards my room.
"Alright Bee. Just get your work done and don't fall behind. Goodnight."
"Goodnight." I close my door. Getting ready for bed and packing a small bag for tomorrow.
