liv told avery about the combine, realizing asher didn't go. avery told liv a bit about getting close with asher.

avery went to his room knocking, "asher!"

she opened the door. "the combine is today. get your ass up. don't sulk. you're on the invite list. this is your chance to get a scholarship."

"shit really?" asher said getting up. "yes liv told me. i'll be waiting. i gotta be there to help the team."

avery was on the field. she helped set up all the drinks for the players. she was sitting down under the tent for shade.

she also needed to take asher home, since they rode together.

once everyone was done she put the equipment away. she put everything in a bin, and took it in the school. coach went to put it in their locker room.

"hey coach, asher in there?" avery asked. "uh let me see. no."

avery walked back to the field. she saw asher sitting down and sat beside him. "combine is over."

"yeah, i'm just not ready to go. i miss this. being out here. i didn't appreciate it enough."

"well come back for the 7-7 game tomorrow. i might be there."

"so will i." asher said. "wait you-"

asher held up a letter he received. "they invited me to play."

"asher, that's great. i'm proud of you." avery smiled.

"this wouldn't happen without you i'm serious. letting me stay at your house. making me drag my ass up. telling me to stop drinking. i really appreciate it."

"of course." she smiled. asher hugged her and she hugged back. they let go.

"what about you? cheer?" asher asked. avery dryly chuckled. "yeah, it's over."

"what why?" he questioned. "my grade started dropping in pre calc. and i got kicked off the team just yesterday."

"i'm sorry." asher apologized. "it's fine, it doesn't matter."

"but i saw you loved cheer. and i thought you were doing well in school."

"i do. i really do. school, i'm just struggling with pre calc. but it'll be ok, hopefully."

"asher?" avery went to look for him and checked the locker rooms. she sat beside him.

"i heard they cut you from the showcase. i'm sorry."

"i knew honestly had it's consequences. never really believed you about the awards though."

"wait huh?"

"i'm back on the team." asher stood up seeing his name. "oh my god that's amazing!" avery hugged asher.

"without you i would probably be sleeping in my car. you provided me everything i could ever have. i owe you big time."

avery went to find liv. she wasn't at school and checked the cafe.

"hi." avery sat next to liv. "so happy 1 year of sobriety. i'm proud of you."

"you remember?"

"of course. i got you something."

avery handed it to her and liv opened it. "the necklace means warrior. and you're a warrior. you're strong."

liv went in her pocket and set a bottle of pills. "i resisted the urge."

"i'm glad. i'm insanely proud of you. i'm always here if you need a shoulder. i know i've been going through some stuff but i'll always talk if you need me."

"i'm sorry i haven't been paying attention to you."liv said. "i understand." avery nodded.

"also can't say the same for my family." liv whispered. "you, spencer and layla are the only ones who remembered."

avery came home with a note on the kitchen.

i'm leaving for a few months. won't be back in a while. watch asher while i'm gone.

avery crumbled the note throwing it away.
