it was night, the game had ended a while ago, and avery was at the adams family.

her mom is at the house already and they talked a bit. her surgery is tomorrow.

she knocked on the door and asher opened it. "hey. are you here for me?"

"i actually need to talk to your dad."

"yeah sure he's in the kitchen."

avery walked towards him. "hi."

"hi avery you ok?" harold asked. "yeah."

"you can stay ash." avery said and sat down beside him. harold across her.

"i need a small favor to ask."

"ok i'm listening." harold nodded. "i have a surgery tomorrow. and i know we bonded overtime from the meetings. and i was wondering can you uh be there? i just want a parent or adult of some sort. my mom might dip after signing documents i don't know."

"yeah of course. but what happened?"

"acl got torn."

"i'm so sorry av." asher said. "yeah i had to be cleared for cheer and i didn't."

asher grabbed her hand and intertwined it.

avery had finished surgery and just woke up. harold, asher and liv was there. "hey." liv whispered as she woke.

"did she leave?" avery asked. "yeah she did. lucy said she needed to take care of herself."

"how you feeling?" asher asked. "it really hurts."

the doctor then walked in. "hi ms. collins. so we need you in hospital for observation then you'll be discharged. you'll have to wear a brace and go go therapy on it." avery nodded.

avery has been able to walk now. she has no brace on, but she's been going to physical therapy.

avery entered the cafe to see asher talking to a friend. she snuck up behind him and covered his eyes.

"guess who?" avery asked. "hm let me see. av." she took her hands away and asher turned around. he went to go hug her.

asher's friend motioned saying bye and left.

"wow no brace that's amazing av."

"thank you. physical therapy is a pain but i have to."

"you can fully walk now?" asher asked. "yup."

"here sit." asher said. "how's football?"

"ok. spencer made top fifty something for best player. now don't get me wrong i'm proud of spencer. but if he hadn't transferred to beverly taking my position and all my stats, i'd definitely made that top 300 list."

"it's ok ash." av assured. "i think i have an idea to on my mom." asher said. "i'm listening."

avery, asher and harold was at dinner. "should we order?" harold asked. "actually, we're not ready." asher said.

gwen approached them. "what is he doing here?"

"what is she doing here asher?"

avery chuckled and drank out of her glass. "this will be interesting for sure." she mumbled.

"suprise. we're gonna have a civil dinner, then both of you are gonna answer some tough questions. now sit." asher stated. gwen took a seat.

"alright now that we had the worlds most awkward dinner, you mind telling us what this is all about?" gwen asked. "i want the truth, it's that simple." asher answered.

"mom, i really needed you, and you abandoned me. i want to know why." asher added.

"you hurt both of us when you left." harold input. "oh, you shut up, harold. don't you play victim here. there's a big difference between leaving you and abandoning my son. i left you willingly." gwen argued.

"so you didn't leave me willingly?" asher asked. gwen looked at harold and then asher to answer. "your father made me promise to stay away from you."

"is that true?" asher looked at his dad. "and if i broke that promise, he would tell everybody — our friends but, most importantly, you. that more than 20 years ago, i was an escort." gwen continued.

"i'm just-" asher struck. "wait when did you find out?"

"sweetheart, that's how we met." gwen said. "now look honey, i'm not ashamed of what i did. i was young. i needed to survive. but i am ashamed that i let your father convince me to stay away from you for so long. keeping that secret just wasn't worth the cost, and for that, i am so sorry."

avery sat back and took a sip. "but i'm not sorry for being rude to avery. her mother is a torturous person."

"mom, you don't know her. you don't know what she's going through." asher said.

"i may not know you, and my mother is a horrible person, but she's a way more successful person than you. i'm not like her, and she's changed ok? she's trying to because she just saw the one person she loves got hurt and she's scared. you left. you didn't have to leave. you could've been honest."

it was true. lucy was trying to change for her daughter. they have little talks here and there. lucy will be back tomorrow.

but she was scared to see her little daughter hurt. she panicked and left out of fear. but she didn't leave the city. lucy just went home.

it was daytime, asher was gonna suprise avery. they were at a park and he covered her eyes leading her to walk.

"i know we've been super busy lately and haven't been able to go on our date. so i thought today was perfect." he took his hand away and avery opened her eyes.

"ash this is amazing." avery kissed him. he set up a picnic with all her favorite foods. and then a camera to take pictures as well as other things avery likes.

"c'mon let's sit."

asher and avery was at her house laying down in her balcony together stargazing. avery laying down with ashers head laid on avery's stomach.

she played with his hair.
