A gold star
Covers the hole of an empty heart.
It's owner is a pawn that is apart
Of the world's problems.
Instead of protection,
Some of them supply oppression,
Ignoring the lessons
That history has taught them.
So why the heck should I trust you
When you're too quick to shoot?
When my life is my number one value?
I mean, there's no excuse for your behavior.
You need more than just reform
But your knowledge restored
And your biases explored,
Now rather than later.
Trust is slowly shaken,
And the hearts of families are breaking.
Some many souls are taken,
The lives you swore under oath to protect.
I can't say I will be quick to call
When you'd rather see people of color fall,
And fail to see how it's your fault.
Do you have any remorse left?
Any at all?
Several African American leaders have marched the Earth,
Showing the world that they're worth
More than the dirt
Underneath ignorant, oppressive shoes.
The leaders that came before us,
Like Dr. King jr., Malcolm X, and Rosa,
Who paved the way to make things just
And show them the truth:
Black lives matter too.
And they always will,Forever and ever.

Happy belated Black History Month y'all! :)
