CHAPTER XXIX : GLEE, ACTUALLY
"Mo, are you gonna help me decorate this tree or not? I have Oliver, Esme, Evangeline, and Arthur helping me, but there is no Moriah!" I shouted as I hung up one of the ornaments "Yes, yes, I'm sorry, I'm coming!" She shouted back, running down the stairs "I was just grabbing something" "Oh yeah? What?" I asked as she entered the room "This" She said, pulling out a box from behind her back "Am I supposed to know what this is?" I asked, peering down at the box. It was gold with a red ribbon, tied around it and a bow "Open it and stop being sassy" She said, pushing it toward me. I chuckled and took the box from her hands. Carefully untying the bow, I chucked the ribbon over my shoulder—planning on using it to tie my hair up since I didn't have a hair tie on me. I lifted the lid of the box and my hand flew up, slapping over my mouth "Moriah, oh, my God it's beautiful" I said, picking up the present from the box. It was a microphone-shaped bauble, covered in black and gold glitter with sequins on it that spelled out Naya. I gently place the bauble back in the box and pulled my sister in the tightest hug "I'm guessing you like it?" "Like it? I love it! It's amazing!" I exclaimed, pulling back and shaking her a little. She chuckled and picked up the box again, handing it to me. I took the bauble out of the box again and went over to the tree, hanging it on one of the higher branches. I felt a tug on my sleeve when my hands dropped down to my sides again and I looked down at Evangeline who was holding the star "Auntie Nay-Nay, can you help me put the star on top of the tree?" She asked hopefully. I smiled warmly down at her and nodded my head, crouching down to pick her up. I hoisted her into my arms 1 and lifted her onto my shoulders so she could reach the top of the tree "No! I wanna put the star!" Arthur whined, trying to reach up to the star and tug his sister down from my shoulders. Moriah quickly swooped him up, putting him on her shoulders "You can both do it" She said, making the two children cheer loudly "Ollie, Esme do you wanna help?" I asked the two kids who were watching Home Alone on the TV "Nope! We're too old to put the star on the tree!" Esme exclaimed, "Yep, that's for babies!" Oliver said, picking at the popcorn in his lap "Okay, okay. How are we gonna do this?" I asked Moriah. She thought for a second before speaking "Okay, Arthur, hold onto one point of the star, Eva, hold onto another point" They both did as their mother said and took the star, so they were both holding it "Now, both of you put the star on the tree" Moriah and I took a step closer to the tree so the kids could reach better and they placed the star on the very top of the tree. I lifted Evangeline off of my shoulders and cuddled her in my arms, spinning her around and making her giggle. I put her down on the sofa and kissed all four kids on the head "Moriah, I'm going to go start on dinner, spaghetti sound okay?" "Sounds great, Nay-Nay!" I headed into the kitchen and started getting the supplies out when I heard the doorbell ring. Moriah answered the door and then I heard shouting "What are you doing here? Why are you here? You've put my sister through enough already, don't come here and try and ruin her Christmas Eve!" I heard Moriah shout. At the mention of me, I put down the tomatoes and ran into the living room "Auntie N, why is mommy shouting?" Evangeline asked me "I don't know, I'll find out, stay here," I said before running over to the front door "Moriah, what's with all the shouting? You're scaring the kids" I asked worriedly "I'll stop shouting when this guy leaves" He said angrily "Well who is it?" I asked, she moved out of the way and I sighed in relief when it was just Blaine "M, it's okay. I asked him to come here" "Why?" She asked, outraged "We're going ice-skating, and then we're getting hot chocolate, and then...then we're going to talk," I said, smiling softly "Absolutely not" "Moriah, with all due respect, I am 17 you can't tell me who I can or can't spend time with" She sighed and moved out of the way completely. I grabbed my scarf and coat off of the hanger "Looks like you're going to have to make dinner, sorry sis" "Hurt her again, I kill you, Anderson" She said, glaring at Blaine. I heard Blaine's little nervous chuckle and grabbed his hand pulling him away from the house whilst waving goodbye to my sister "Worst stage?" "I may or may not have burnt copies of photos of us in the middle of the garden whilst crying and singing. And I may or may not have pushed her when she tried to take the lighter. But you know I'm okay now. It was just hard for her to see me like that" "Gosh, Naya, I'm so sorry, it was my fault you went through that" "Yeah, it was. But there's no need to apologize anymore. We're here so we can have fun, and talk and get things sorted, so we can be friends" "Yes, friends" He said, somewhat sadly as we got into the car.
__________
"I haven't been back here in a while," I said as we walked over to the little lake in the woods where we did the photo shoot. It was frozen over and the trees had no leaves, and the flower fields were dead—but icicles were hanging from the tree fairy lights draped around it "Did you put these fairy lights up?" "I did, I wanted this to be as pretty as possible," He said, smiling shyly. I smiled back and sat down on a rock as he handed me some skates "Here are your skates, you're a size six right?" I nodded my head and slipped off my trainers, careful to not let my socks touch the snow. He helped me up once I had the skates on and together we wobbled over towards the lake "You have 911 on speed dial right?" I asked as we both slipped and almost toppled to the ground "Yep, don't worry" He said with a slight chuckle. I tentatively checked the ice was solid with my skates and when I was sure it was okay I slid onto it, pulling Blaine with me. He stumbled slightly but I steadied him whilst chuckling. He spun me around and pretended to dance with me on the ice "What are you dancing to? There's no music" I said as he did a little ballerina twirl "Maybe we should change that" He said, skating around me in a circle and pulling me further onto the lake, making me chuckle.
White Christmas — Michael Bublé Ft. Shania Twain (Sung By Blaine & Naya)
[Blaine]
Ba do ba do bow bow bow ba dow
Ba do be do bow bow bow ba dum
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the tree tops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow, the snow
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days, may your days, may your days
Be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
Woah, woah
[Naya & (Blaine)]
I-I-I-I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the tree tops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
Woah (Bow be do be do)
[Naya & Blaine (Blaine)]
I-I-I-I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write (Ooh)
[Naya & (Blaine)]
May your days, may your days, may your days
Be merry and bright (Oh, let them be bright)
And may all your Christmases be white
[Blaine]
Oh, woo
Come on
Ooh, yeah, yeah
Oh, yeah
[Naya]
White Christmas
[Blaine]
Ooh, yeah
Wooah
[Blaine With Naya (Naya)]
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Doom beam doom doom doom doom be do do.
By the end of the song, I was laughing a lot and actually felt happy. But then I heard a crack, looked down and the ice was cracking slightly beneath me. Blaine noticed too and quickly skated over to me, grabbing my hands and pulling me away quickly, both of us slipping in the process. We slid over to the side of the lake as the ice fell through, and we pushed ourselves up onto the snow-covered grass "That would've been cold" I said slightly in shock. My voice seemed to snap Blaine out of a daze and he grabbed my face, tilting my head side to side "Naya, oh, my God are you okay? You didn't get hurt, did you? Are you cold? Are you wet? Here, take my jacket. Wait, hold on, let me help you up first" He quickly jumped to his feet, almost slipping in the process, and extended his hands down to me. I grabbed onto them and he helped me to my feet. When I have stable and standing up he pulled me into a hug. It took me by surprise and I hesitantly hugged him back "Blaine. I'm fine. I'm not hurt or wet or cold, you got me out of there on time. Just, calm down" I said, pulling away from him. He took a deep breath and nodded his head. We stumbled back over to the rocks and sat down, taking the skates off and putting our shoes back on "How about we go get a hot chocolate?" He suggested, helping me up off the rock. I nodded my head, tucking some of my hair behind my ear "Sounds good"
__________
Blaine and I walked around Lima park, hot chocolates in hand when the clock tower in Lima Shopping Square rang. It was a faint noise, but loud enough for us to hear and Blaine stopped walking "Hey, it's midnight" He said, reaching out to stop me walking "Already? We've been out for four hours?" I asked incredulously "I suppose we have, do you know what that means?" "No..." "It's Christmas!" He said excitedly. I smiled softly and chuckled, nodding my head "Officially Christmas" "No matter what, no matter where, even if we're not together, we're always going to be there for each other" He said, suddenly getting emotional. I smiled brighter and pulled him in for a hug, he accepted it quickly, holding me tight as if he was never going to let go "Blaine, we need to talk" I said, pulling away from him "Can we talk somewhere warmer?" He asked, I chuckled and nodded my head "My parents are away again, so my house is free. I've practically moved into Moriah's but my bed's still there and the TV and food and stuff" He nodded his head and took my hand as we walked back to the car.
___________
I unlocked the door to my house and chucked the keys into the dish beside the door. I took a deep breath and took my coat and scarf as Blaine stepped into the house. He passed me his scarf and coat and I hung them up for him "Go into the living room, I'll grab us something to eat and then we can...talk" I said, smiling shyly. He nodded his head and I headed into the kitchen. I made us some popcorn and headed back into the living room. I placed the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table and sat down next to him "So...talking" He said, turning to face me on the sofa. I pulled my legs up onto the sofa and wrapped my arms around my knees, pulling them into my chest "Blaine, I—I forgive you. I don't completely understand why you—you, you know, cheated but...it wasn't all your fault. I was horrible, and terrible with my job. And it was unfair of me, so unfair for me to blame everything on you, so I guess I'm hoping you can forgive me now" "Are you kidding me, Naya? I have nothing to forgive you for. You didn't do anything" "I did, I could've lowered my work hours, or I could've told Alessia I couldn't work or something, anything I don't know. But there was stuff I could've done to prevent all this from happening" He leaned in closer to me and cupped my face with his hands "You listen to me, okay? If you really want me to 'forgive' you, then I do. But I personally think there is nothing I could forgive you for. I made a terrible, terrible mistake, and—and I know you don't want to hear about this but I need to tell you, I need to get this off my chest.
That night, I went over to his place because it felt like you were moving on with my life and I wasn't a part of it.
And I got to thinking that maybe, you know, we weren't meant for each other.
That we weren't supposed to spend the rest of our lives together. But right after I did it I knew that we were. Naya, you are my soulmate, the love of my life and I'm going to spend the rest of my days on this earth, trying to make up for that" "Blaine-" "Wait, let me finish. I know you just want to be friends, and I respect that, for now. But, I can't bear the thought of never being with you again. You are the person I am meant to be with, and no matter how many breaks we go on, I'm always going to come running right back to you. Because I love you-" Without thinking, I leaned in and kissed him. He kissed me back, pulling me closer until we both lay horizontally on the couch.
__________
"Blaine, can you pass me my sweater?" I asked as I buttoned up my shirt quickly and zipped up the back of my skirt. He chucked my sweater and I pulled it over my head as he buttoned up his shirt. When we were both dressed, we sat on the couch, not even looking at each other "So, what does this mean?" He asked, moving closer to me. I pulled away from him slightly, but not a lot "Look, Blaine. I love you, but I'm not sure I'm ready to be back with you yet. This was—amazing, and I'm so glad it happened because it made me realize just how in love with you I am. But you still hurt me, and I need a little more time to heal. We're definitely friends again, that I can promise but uh—we're not back together. Yet. How about we—uh, talk on Valentine's Day?" "Yet—yet, I can live with. And Valentine's sounds good" He leaned and pressed a small kiss to my lips "How about, we be together, just for today, just for Christmas and then we can go about everything as friends but just today, you are my girlfriend?" I thought about it for a second and nodded my head, pressing a kiss to his cheek "Just for today" I clarified and he smiled, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me back down on the couch "Blaine, I just got dressed!" I said, chuckling as he kissed my cheek and lips repeatedly "I don't care"
__________
Once we had calmed down, watched a few movies and you know, got dressed again, I headed into the kitchen to make us some breakfast—but I suppose it was nearing 4:00 pm so more like a late lunch/early dinner and since it was Christmas, I guess I was making Christmas Dinner. Blaine wasn't very helpful. I had put on the radio so we could listen to Christmas songs as we cooked but instead of helping me cook, he decided to dance around the kitchen and sing along to all the songs. Another song came on and Blaine grabbed my hands pulling me away from where I stood watching him. He pulled me in close, placing a hand on my back, putting my hand on his shoulder, and then taking my other hand in his free hand. I smiled softly and let him dance me around the kitchen as he sang quietly along to the music.
