CHAPTER XXX : SADIE HAWKINS

"I'm telling you, it's been keeping me up at night. Something weird's going on with the Warblers. They're doing all those weird flips and superhuman jumps at Sectionals" Sam said frantically, chasing Blaine and I down the corridor as I walked the two of them to their student council meeting "Exactly, that's why they won" Blaine said, furrowing his eyebrows "And where was Round-faced Warbler?
You said he was there when you went back to Dalton, but come Sectionals, poof, he's gone" "So, what're you saying?" I asked, confused as to what his point was "I think they cheated at Sectionals" Sam said bluntly. I rolled my eyes and shook my head, there was no way they cheated—we probably would've won if we hadn't all run off to check on Marley "Sam, you can't make accusations like that without any kind of evidence" Blaine pointed out "Yeah, Sam, it's really dangerous—you could get them, or us, into serious trouble" I added "Well, then, I'll find some evidence. Do either of you have any lip balm I can use?" Blaine and I stopped walking and turned back to face him "What?" We both asked simultaneously "Conspiracy theories make my lips get all chapped" Blaine stared at Sam in wonder as I dug through my bag in search of a lip balm, but couldn't find one "Sorry, Sam, I don't have one" "Okay, Blaine, what about you?" Blaine didn't say anything just stared at him, or more his mouth, and my eyes widened "Come on dude, it's not weird. We're like brothers" Blaine snapped out of his little daydream and turned his head to look at me. I raised my eyebrows at him, a little smirk playing on my lips "Yeah, um, sure. Here you go" He said, flustered. He handed the lip balm and Sam went ahead into the student council room. I grabbed Blaine's hand and pulled him back "What?" "You like him" I whispered "No, no, no, no, Come on, Naya, you know I love you," He said quickly, his blush growing "Yeah, yeah, I know you love me. Love and like are two different things. You have a crush on Sam, and that's perfectly okay. I mean—we're not getting back together until at least Valentine's and this—this is just a crush as far as I'm aware. But if it ever turns into something more, you know, like—like love, then you have to tell me straight away. Promise?" He sighed quietly and nodded his head "Promise" I stuck out my pinkie finger and gestured for him to do the same. He did, with a confused look on his face, and I hooked my pinkie finger around his "Break a pinkie promise and you get a punch in the face—those are my rules. And you've seen me punch Sebastian, and gave him a black eye for a week" He look slightly terrified and I chuckled, pulling him into his Student Council meeting before I headed off to meet Marley and Unique.
__________
The Glee Club and I walked into the science classroom for our practice. Planets were hanging from the ceiling and it seemed to excite Sam and Sugar "I wanna sit under Venus!" Sugar exclaimed, "I wanna sit under Uranus!" Sam exclaimed, making Blaine, Tina, and I chuckle "What's so funny?" Sam asked, but none of us gave him an answer.
Everyone took their seats as Finn went up to the front of the room "So this week in Glee Club, it's ladies' choice, inspired by the Sadie Hawkins Dance" Finn announced "Which I thought of. It was my idea" Tina said smugly, throwing her hand in the air "Yes, thank you, Tina. And every girl will sing to whoever they want to take to the dance" Finn explained further "Well, I, for one, love this lesson. I've got a song I want to sing to somebody" Kitty said, leaning against the doorframe and shooting a pointed look at Jake. I rolled my eyes and leaned forward, patting Marley comfortingly on the shoulder. I noticed the pointed look Tina had thrown at Blaine and felt a sudden pang of jealousy. I sighed quietly and leaned back, sitting up straight again. Blaine looked over at me, wondering why I had sighed and I simply shrugged my shoulders.
__________
"Okay, so, Tina is ready to present her solo and make her choice" Finn announced as we sat in the locker rooms for Glee practice. She was staring very pointedly at Blaine and I shuffled closer to him discreetly. He noticed and smiled at me, gently patting my knee "Gentleman, prepare yourselves for Tina Cohen-Chang" "Thank you, Finn. For my song, I'll be performing 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' from Jesus Christ Superstar. It's about the pain of unrequited love and-" "Yeah, okay, just wrap it up. Beiste needs the locker room at 4:30" She nodded at the band and the music started playing.
I Don't Know How To Love Him — Jesus Christ Superstar (Sung By Tina)
She stared so obviously at Blaine, and it made me so incredibly uncomfortable.
She even walked closer to him and sang directly to him but I don't think Blaine got the hint. I balled my hands up into fists and dug my nails into my palms "Okay, let's hear it for Tina!" Finn said, clapping, the rest of the class clapped but I didn't. Tina was supposed to be one of my best friends, but she was going after my ex-boyfriend who she knew I was still in love with—like, what the hell? She walked forward again, and stood in front of Blaine, smiling hopefully down at him "So, Blaine...will you go to the dance with me?" My jaw actually dropped, was she really doing this? Blaine looked over at me beside him and then over at Sam further down the bench and then back at Tina. He looked stunned as there was an awkward silence throughout the locker room "Oh, uh..." He chuckled awkwardly "Wow, um, Tina...I don't know what to say" He said insanely awkwardly. My mouth formed into a slight smirk, he very obviously wasn't going to say yes "Um...no. Thank you, but no, no, thank
you" The footballers walked in as the clock hit 4:30 and we got up to leave but Tina didn't move, she was frozen in shock. I felt slightly bad for her, but not that much.
___________
Brittany and I walked down the corridors together, just chatting when we spotted Marley. Britt grabbed my hand and pulled me along with her as she called out to Marley "Hey, can we talk to you for a second?" She asked, putting her hand on Marley's shoulder. Marley nodded her head and we walked along the three of us "Uh, my name is Brittany and this is Naya" She said, introducing the two of us "I know" Marley said confusedly "Okay. I just wasn't sure. Me and you have never actually had a conversation before, and this is exciting—I didn't wanna be rude and not introduce Naya, because I wasn't sure if you actually knew her name. But anyway, we noticed that whenever you look at Jake, you get a really sad look on your face, and if it's quiet enough, I can actually hear that you're whimpering like a suckling puppy" Brittany said, as we walked down the stairs "We think you want to ask him to the dance and you're afraid to" I said, linking my arm through Marley's "We went out on a couple of dates, and it was really, really nice. This is my locker" She said, leading us over to her locker. She opened the door and put some stuff in it "But then after I fainted at Sectionals, he started acting really strange. He stopped calling me and he's acting all mysterious" She said sadly "So can I make a suggestion then?" Britt asked, Marley, nodded "You need to find your power and we're gonna help you do that" "How? Where are you going?" She asked as Brittany and I stepped away from her "The three of us are gonna sing together" Brittany stated "The music usually starts when I say something like, 'It's Britney, Bitch'" "Or when, we do our magical turns" I added with a small smirk "I thought you didn't like singing in the corridors and using the magic that is McKinley" Brittany said and I shrugged my shoulders "Uh, I suppose I've gotten used to it" I said, and we did our magical turn. Suddenly we were in blue dresses and our hair was done all nicely, with makeup on our faces. Marley looked at us in wonder as we started to dance and sing.
Tell Him — The Exciters (Sung By Brittany, Marley, Naya & The New Directions Females)
We ended up in one of the classrooms singing to the boys. By the end of the song, Britt and I both sent pointed looks to Marley, telling her to ask Jake "Jake!" She shouted the second the song was over. She scared him a little and she calmed down "I mean, I mean..." She got down on one knee and looked up at him, hopefully, "Jake, would you like to go to the Sadie Hawkins Dance with me?" "Yes. Yes, I would" He said, and Brittany and I rejoiced, she got up and suddenly we were back in our normal clothes.
Britt and I winked at Marley when she realized but didn't say anything "Okay, uh, anyone else?" Finn asked. Brittany walked over to Sam and took his hands "Sam, will you go to Sadie Hawkins with me?" "Honour, it would be," Sam said, impersonating Yoda. She giggled and thanked him "Naya, how about you? Asking anyone?" Finn prompted with a pointed look over at Blaine. I looked over at Blaine too but something inside me was screaming at me not to ask him "Uh, no, I think I'm gonna go solo" I said, with a small smile. Finn nodded his head and I saw the look of disappointment on Blaine's face but ignored it.

{Blaine's Pov}
"I owe you an apology," Tina said, approaching me at my locker. I stopped putting my book in my bag and turned to look at her "I also think you sort of owe me an apology because...that was maybe the most humiliating moment I've experienced in Glee Club and that's saying something—I mean, I really put myself in danger, did you see the way Naya was glaring at me? But still, I'm sorry. I forgot that story you told about your old school. How the whole reason you transferred to Dalton was because you got bullied at a Sadie Hawkins Dance. No wonder you don't want to go. I apologize" "Thank you, Tina, but that's not why I can't go to the dance with you—Naya helped me sort the whole Sadie Hawkins fear thing last year, she threw me our own private one but that's beside the point," I said, turning to continue putting my books back in my locker "Then what is the reason?" "I—I can't tell you that. It's—it's really embarrassing" "I swear—I won't tell anyone" "I have a crush on somebody, and I'm still in love with Naya but she won't ask me because she needs 'time' to figure everything out, and I don't want to go to a dance where everyone's gonna be romantic there but me" "Who do you have a crush on?" I didn't answer, just slammed my locker door shut "Who is it?" "It's—It's a guy and he's straight and he doesn't know that I like him and Naya knows but she's cool about it because it's just a crush and hopefully it'll go away soon" "I swear to God I won't tell anyone" "I'm some predatory bisexual, so nothing's gonna happen" "Who is it?" I leaned back against the lockers and didn't answer "Tell me, Blaine. Y—you can trust me" I sighed and dramatically slid down the lockers onto the floor "It's Sam," I said sadly "It's stupid" "No," She said, sitting down beside me "It's not stupid. I know what it's like to have a crush on someone who's never gonna love you back" "I know it's all just a fantasy. I—I mean I'm proud of our relationship. I'm proud the LGBT+ guy can be friends with the straight guy. I'm proud of showing the school that. I just...I don't wanna jeopardize our friendship, you know?" "Blaine...you miss Naya. You need someplace to put your love, right?" "I guess. We are talking on Valentine's Day, you know, she needed some more time and stuff, so maybe it's just all the love I want to give to her, focused onto the second person closest to me?" "Yeah! And then there are those lips..." "Yes, those lips. And when he does all those impressions?" "It's pure crushable crack. Okay, here's what we're gonna do about your very human and moving dilemma. We are going to the Sadie Hawkins Dance together. We'll go as best friends, and we're gonna have the most fun night ever. Okay? Forget about Naya and Sam, and we'll have a great time. Come on" She said, extending her hand out to me. I took her hands and let her pull me to my feet "Okay"
__________
{Naya's Pov}
I was at the Sadie Hawkins Dance, alone.
But to be honest, I didn't really care—I was just here to have fun and be happy.
I wore a blue off-the-shoulder dress that went down to my knees but was longer at the back and the earrings Blaine bought me.
