Once we arrived at the bar, we took a seat at a table and ordered drinks. John fidgets with his glass and looks around and I sigh at his nerves. "John." He looks up at me. "Calm the fuck down. You look really suspicious right now. You need to relax."

"How can I relax? This is my first nest." I down my glass and wave for one more. One perk of being a mutant vampire is that it takes a lot of alcohol to get me drunk but I can still feel the burn or taste of each drink. "Finish your drink, and let's dance. Take your mind off the hunt." The waitress sets another glass down and I tap my glass to his before downing it in one go.

"Shouldn't you slow down?" He asked once he finished his glass. "Takes more than this to get me drunk. Let's go." I take his hand and drag him to the dance floor as a line dance comes on. Many patrons cheer and jump to the floor as well. John looked lost and I helped him with the steps I learned over the years as I laughed. Once he got the hang of it a big smile stretched across his face and he laughed along with me.

It was a partnered line dance, and when John twirled me into his arms, I smelt two vampires entering the bar. "On your six," I whisper in his ear and he tenses. "Calm down and keep going as we have. Glance that way when the line turns." I twirled out his arms when it was time and the line did a 180. Hearing his breath hitch I knew I had to distract him before he blew our cover.

They most likely caught my scent since they were scanning the entire bar so at the final dip, I pulled John into a kiss. He was definitely surprised and almost dropped me, and when I felt the vamps' eyes move away, I pulled away from the kiss and dragged him back to our table in the corner once the song was over.

"W-what was that?"

"You were about to blow our cover. You have to act natural when you go on hunts."

His face was red, "did you have to kiss me? I can't believe that happened. I'm so sorry Mary." I sigh and flick his forehead. "What was I supposed to do? You were staring. It was super obvious."

He rubs the spot I flicked with a frown. "Umm, maybe not kiss me? I'd never-"

"Listen John. Mary is dead, and if she was on this hunt with you she'd probably do the same since you're acting like a toddler that is seeing someone new for the first time. You are a hunter. Know what that means?" He stays silent so I continue. "It means that sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do to get information. Whether it's sleeping with a slut or pretending to date another hunter, or stealing money so you can eat, you do what you need to do."

He doesn't reply and I lean back in my chair with a sigh and rub my face. "I'm sorry John. That was harsh, and I shouldn't have kissed you." He shakes his head. "No you're right, I'm sorry." The air was a bit awkward after that so I glanced behind me and saw the vampires talking to a few girls. "So I'm guessing you did the things you mentioned?"

"Not so much, since I'm- you know. I'm pretty well off even after closing both my family companies after the second war. I don't eat so food isn't an issue unless it has to be. I never got to sleep around since people tend to freak out when my eyes change and the fangs come out, pretty sure I'd probably bite them too since adrenaline will be high, and that'll be hard to avoid. Fake dating on the other hand is something other hunters were very reluctant to do with me. I can pass really well as a human so it's usually with a human affected by the case." He blows air out of his mouth and leans back in his chair.
