Emery's POV
3 months later
i sat in the leather chairs a mere foot away from dr.nichols desk, tapping my nails against the cushioned arms of the chair.
my heart beat sped up as i heard the light footsteps shuffle towards the office door.

dr.nichols greeted me with a handshake before making a beeline towards his desk.

"no billie?" he asked.

i shook my head, "just me," i replied.

"okay, i know at our last appointment you weren't open to discussing different aids and services but as i'm sure you've noticed, you're vision loss is progressing," dr.nichols cleared his throat, "what i'm saying is we can only assume that you vision loss will progress faster, meaning this is our window into looking at those options if that's what you're ready for."

"do you have any pamphlets on the guide dogs?" i questioned hesitantly.

"I do, quite a few actually."

for the rest of the appointment, dr. nichols and i discussed what option would be best and how they'd fit into my life.

"hi my love," billie said as she kissed the top of emery's head after walking in the door.

"hi baby," emery said, looking up at her girlfriend from the couch.

emery got up from the couch and followed billie to the kitchen, "so i wanted to talk you about something."

"okay," billie said as she leaned against the counter.

"so i had my appointment to with dr.nichols and we uh explored some of my options, basically what i'm saying is i think i'm open to the idea of getting a guide dog," emery told her girlfriend who had a soft smile.

"i'm so proud of you for even just considering it em, really."

"thank you," she mumbled into his chest.

later that night

"look at how cute this one is baby," i said as i walked up to billie who was doing her night routine.

"he is pretty cute, do you have any qualities or anything you're set on with your dog?" billie asked.

"um not anything in particular, most of the training they go through checks off stuff on my boxes anyway."

"i wonder how shark's gonna feel about being a big brother," billie laughed, "maybe then i'll actually have my girlfriend to myself."

i smirked at her comment, "you know they'll probably be pretty close in age since they train them for about two years."

"damn, no wonder they're so pricey, but also we get to skip the basic training age which is a big relief if i do say so myself.
