Mayor Humdinger drove to the places he thought Emily would be but he couldn't find her. He eventually grew tired of looking and got sidetracked when he drove toward the China Clay Pits on his purple kitty carrier and had an idea. He wanted to do what he did best. Or so he thought. He thought that he was running the island like clockwork, refusing to believe there were any difficulties. Putting engines in their place seemed effortless since he stepped in. If only he knew how wrong he was. The mayor reached the China Clay Pits and saw Timothy idling in the yard. He then stopped and got off his purple kitty carrier and approached him with a smug look on his face. Timothy noticed Mayor Humdinger and grew worrisome. He had experienced how boorish he could be with Bill and Ben. He definitely had not planned to see him today.

"Good morning, Timmy." The mayor greeted.

"Actually, sir, it's Timothy." The oil burning engine corrected.

"Well it doesn't matter. I need you to do a job for me." He said.

"What is it, sir?" Timothy asked, hoping what he would say wouldn't be so bad.

The mayor gave a sinister grin. "I need you to pick some cow manure at Farmer McColl's farm and deliver it to...whatever the smelliest place on this island is."

Timothy looked horrified. "Not the waste dump!"

"Oh yes, the waste dump!" Humdinger said deviously. "Those cows are waiting for someone to pick up their foul-smelling wastes and take them away!"

"Well, let someone else do it! Surely there's another engine that would like to pull that train of rubbish!"

"I'd rather not."

Bill and Ben were watching the quarrel from afar and listened in between the conversation to see what's going on.

"What makes you think you can poke your big purple hat in here and tell me to pull a pile of dung? I normally work here in the clay pits." Timothy said.

"Times are changing, Timothy," Humdinger told him arrogantly while clenching hold of his suit. "Your former Sir Topham isn't here anymore. I'm in charge now. And like any other controller, I give out the assignments and expect you to perform them in the given task I ask you to."

"I won't do it!" Timothy protested.

"Oh yes, you will!" Humdinger replied, raising his voice and approaching the oil burning engine. "Or else I will tell everyone you have a soft spot for those identical twins."

Timothy gasped and glanced around the yard, hoping no one else was listening. Bill and Ben raised their eyebrows and glanced at each other questionably. Timothy looked at his buffers hesitantly. He knew Bill and Ben were known to be mischievous and remembered the day when they tricked him into finding a rainbow car that wasn't real and instead found a truck full of supplies of the same colors and the day when the twins said that the oil burning engine should work at the docks just to have some fun. Timothy took his eyes off his buffers and looked back at Humdinger.

"Even if that's true, I'm still not doing it!"

"Oh, yes you will! Or else I'll have you put out of service for good!"

Bill and Ben saw Humdinger raise his voice at Timothy and knew they had to step in and try to put the contemptible mayor in his place. The twins steamed up toward him.

"Hey, you can't speak to Timothy like that!" Bill cut in.

"Yeah!" Ben added. "You can't speak to our friend that way! Where's your manners?"

Timothy was surprised to see Bill and Ben. They'd never stick up for him. They would usually tease him for being the way he was. Humdinger turned around and faced the twins bitterly.

"I'm sorry, did I ask for your opinion? Didn't think so. Now get back to work!" He demanded. The twins only rolled their eyes and did so.

"Fuddy-duddy." Ben muttered.

Mayor Humdinger turned back to the oil burning engine.

"Those waste cars are waiting, Timothy." He smirked. "And while that's being done, I'll be meeting some new faces on this island."

And with that, Mayor Humdinger walked away and twirled his mustache before getting back on his purple kitty carrier and driving off.

"More like 'I got to give nonsensical orders to other engines so I can feel better about myself'. Big-headed git." Timothy sniffed before heading out of the clay pits and to Farmer McColl's farm to pick up the dreadful cow manure.
