Duck had a hard time trying to clear the mystery of Oliver's feelings for him in his smokebox. He didn't really want to believe it, but the chance of it being true made his boiler run cold. It still bothered him after his passenger run was finished and went to the docks to collect some vans full of fruit that had to be taken to the market. The green pannier tank engine shuddered at the last incident with him and fruit. Once he arrived at the docks, he could see his train waiting for him. He backed down onto his train full of fruit and was soon coupled up to it. Salty, the dockyard diesel, pulled up beside the green pannier tank engine.
"Be careful with those vans," He teased. "You don't want to end up covered in squashed fruit again."
Duck only rolled his eyes at the diesel and tooted as he left the docks. On his way to the market, Humdinger's words still reverberated in his smokebox. Duck knew he couldn't keep it hidden, so he searched up ahead to see if any engine was near to see if what Humdinger said was true. He found Percy at Elsbridge and had hope. Duck stopped beside the platform beside Percy.
"Hello, Duck." He greeted.
"Hello, Percy." He replied, trying not to sound on edge.
Then it all went quiet. Until Duck spoke up.
"Percy, can I ask you something?"
"What is it?"
"Is Oliver really in love with me?"
"What?" Percy asked, raising an eyebrow, needing to make sure he heard correctly what Duck had said.
"Is Oliver really in love with me?"
"What makes you think that?"
"Humdinger told me that Oliver had feelings for me all this time. Is that true?"
"Not that I know of."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm pretty sure."
"Alright, but I'm still skeptical about what he said."
"What did he say?"
"I just told you. He said that Oliver was in love with me after I told him the abhorrent things he caused to the island."
"And why would you believe a good-for-nothing prat like him?"
"I don't know. He sounded pretty serious about it."
"From the way I've heard him act, he's probably just messing with you."
"How do you know?"
"Do you really think Oliver is in love with you?"
Duck looked down at his buffers and thought real hard. After a couple of seconds, he finally opened his mouth.
"Maybe?"
Percy rolled his eyes in exasperation and sighed. "If I could knock some sense into you, I would."
"What did I do?"
"You're not understanding the fact that Oliver does not have feelings for you and that Humdinger is nothing but a lying crook and he tricked you into thinking that Oliver has feelings for you."
"Is that right?"
"Yes!"
Duck took a brief moment to get what Percy was trying to say and felt very silly once he got Percy's point.
"Oh, well, maybe I did take him too seriously. And maybe Oliver does see me as a friend and nothing else while Humdinger is nothing but a lying crook like you said."
Duck then let out a sigh of relief. "That's what I needed to hear. Thanks for the help, Percy. I don't know what I'd do without a wise engine like you."
"No problem, Duck."
As the two engines finished their conversation, Duck set off again on his journey feeling very relieved that what Humdinger said wasn't true.
