I don't sleep the whole night, just in case the grievers decide to pay us another visit. I sit in a chair in front of the Homestead with my bow at hand. Newt stops by somewhere in the middle of the night. I couldn't tell what time it was. "You should sleep," he tells me. "No need," I shake my head. "We should talk," he crosses his arms. "Should we?" I stand. He nods his head. "Believe it or not. I like you, too," he tells me. I sigh and can't help but smile. Good thing it's too dark for him to see me blush. "As much as I like you, I can't. Not right now at least. There's just way too much going on and I think the last thing we both need is more distractions," I take his hands in mine. He kisses the top of my forehead and walks back inside. I grab my bow and sit back down in my chair.
Just as the sun starts rising, Newt and Minho walk out. "Did you get any sleep?" Newt asks, sitting on the ground. "Nope," I pop the 'p'. "You didn't have to do that," Minho sits on the ground next to Newt. I just shrug in response. We sit there for a few minutes before the other Gladers start walking out. They needed no order to get their weapons and get ready to leave. Tommy, Teresa, Chuck, and Gally walk out. "You guys ready?" Teresa asks, a knife at hand. "I'd certainly hope so," I look up at her. I stand up, along with Newt and Minho. "Come on," Newt says walking, we follow behind. We waste no time gathering up the Gladers that have decided to come.
Now we stand in front of the doors. "Keep up, follow me, and don't die," I say, turning around facing all of them. "We're all bloody inspired," Newt gives me a look. "You're welcome," I shrug. "Got the key?" I ask Minho. He nods his head at me. "Let's go!" I yell. In response they yell all types of "yeah!"
We begin running turning at different corners that I remember all too well. Tommy, Minho, and I are in the front, considering that we were used to this. Although, none of the Gladers asked for a break. They just wanted to get out of here as much as I did. We get to section seven, and go through the long brown panels that Minho calls blades. Some of the Gladers look up at them in awe, but continue to stay focused.
Once we get to the beginning of the corridor, I stop all of them. "Now comes the hard part," I pop my head over the corner and see a griever. I look back and see Teresa putting her hair up. "Minho," I turn him around and take the key out of his backpack. I hand it to Chuck. "Protect this thing with your life," I pat his shoulder. He looked overwhelmed. "Don't worry, I'll be right next to you," Teresa assures him. He smiles at her. "We make a path for Teresa and Chuck. We make sure they can get through with the key. We get out alive or we die trying. Understand?" I direct this to the rest of the Gladers.
They all nod at me. Minho pulls a machete off his back. The rest hold up their weapons. "Let's go!" Thomas yells. We all run around the corner, shouting war cries as we run full speed toward the griever. Once it sees us it lets out an eerie screech. I get close enough and begin to shoot arrows at it. The other Gladers continue with their spears. Teresa and Chuck run by me and I guard them.
The griever gets close to the edge and I shoot an arrow at it which is enough to send it plummeting off. "Aurora!" Teresa yells. I look over and see her pulling Chuck as a griever stalks towards them. I shoot an arrow at it and it turns it's attention to me. I nod my head at Teresa and she takes the hint by running off to the doors with Chuck. I put my bow on my back and take out two of my knives, one in each hand. The Gladers run over backing me up by holding up their spears. Once again, we fight it until we push it off of the edge. I look to my left and see two more grievers crawling towards us. "Back up!" I tell the Gladers.
They oblige, leaving me guarding them. I twist the knives around in my hands. One of the grievers charges at me and throws a claw at me. I hold it back by making and x shape with the knives. It pulls back and I take my chance by stabbing it and then pulling my knife back. I back up to rest of the Gladers. "Aurora, I need a code! Eight numbers!" I hear Teresa yell from behind me. Suddenly, a griever jumps down from the top and lands on top of Minho. "Minho!" Jeff yells, right before jumping into the pile of grievers, distracting it and causing it to crawl off of Minho. "71526483!" I yell back at Teresa. The panel flashes green in her face. "Got it!" She smiles. The circle opens and we all back up into it. Just as another griever was charging for us, I take the spear out of Newt's hand and throw it. The spear causes the griever to fall back and get smushed by the wall. The circle closes and all we can see is darkness, all we hear is our own breaths.
