It took me 20 minutes to eventually be able to stand up and cold wash my hair over the side of the bathtub. I just wanted to go home. But they'd worry if I did and I really didn't want to cause more hassle for them all.
Now I was sat in the corner of the sofa. Bailey sat close to me protectively on one side, Luke on the other side, gazing at the TV, a mixture of disgust and confusion on his face. A rom com. She'd talked him into watching a fucking romantic comedy. One I'd suggested hundreds of times. My favourite film. And here he was, watching it with his arm around her, like it was the best movie he'd ever seen. I sighed, continuing to distract myself with the art piece on my iPad. Not work related for once. Just for fun. Well. Fun. Distraction. They're the same thing sometimes.
"What you working on?" Bailey looked over, whispering quietly.
"Nothing." I looked at him, locking the tablet. I couldn't do it. It had been 45 minutes since I left the bathroom and I was honestly feeling so sick. I couldn't handle it. "I'm gonna go." I pulled the duvet off me, standing up and collecting my things, leaving the room quickly as I ducked under the TV and out into the hallway. I was literally shaking. It was all a little too much tonight.
"Lil?" I looked up smiling softly at Bailey as I pulled my trainers on.
"Mhm?"
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah fine why wouldn't I be?" He looked back at the living room, pulling the door closed and crossing his arms. "I'm fine. I ate the pizza didn't I?"
"Yeah. That doesn't mean you're fine Lil."
"I am." I stood up, adjusting my hood on the back of my clothes. "I feel gross with all the food is all. I need a full shower and some clean clothes."
"The bathrooms-"
"In my own house Bails. Alone." I grabbed my bag, checking everything was in there as I pushed my laptop in.
"You coming round tomorrow? They were talking about doing some games on the PlayStation again."
"I don't know, depends on work and I should probably go to the gym again." He sighed. "I won't have time the rest of the week. Chill out. 3 times a week. That's what we agreed."
"Yeah, we also agreed you'd tell us if you were feeling that way again."
"I'm not. I don't see the issue. I'm fine. I said that." I pulled my bag over my shoulder. "I'll see you later."
"Let me drive you home."
"I brought my car."
"So?"
"So how am I supposed to get to work tomorrow if my cars here?"
"I'll take you and then one of us will pick you tomorrow night after work so you can come get it." I crossed my arms.
"No. I'm not falling for it." I smiled at him, stepping forward and kissing his cheek. "I'm fine Bails. I promise. I just want to go home and do some things I've been meaning to for a while."
"Like what?"
"I don't know. Paint my nails, do some more example designs for work, move my living room around."
"It's 8pm. You can't move your room around at this time."
"Can and will." I smiled, opening the door and stepping out.
"I don't believe you're okay Lil. He might be blind and completely oblivious but I'm not." I rolled my eyes, standing on the doorstep. I could feel the cold air from the rain behind me. I didn't want to stand in it for as long as I could, thought it might be exactly what I needed right now. To lay in the middle of the road and just let it all wash over me.
"I'm perfectly fine Bailey. Okay fine, like her comment sucked. But it is what it is. I can't control what other people say and she probably didn't even mean it that way. She doesn't even know either so it's not like she knew not to bring it up." He stepped out, closing the door behind him.
"And what about how he handled it? Aren't you upset about that?"
"That he took her out of the room? Why would that upset me?"
"Because he didn't fight your corner like Luke did."
"I don't need you guys to fight my corner on things like this Bailey. I've got it. It's fine. I'm going home." He pulled me into a hug. Tight. Not wavering as I tried to push back.
"You're perfect exactly as you are Lil." I let out a breath, listening to the beat of his heart for comfort. "Please just ignore it." He held me back, holding onto my arms as I looked up at him.
"I am."
"Promise me?"
"I promise."
"Pinky promise?" I chuckled as he held his finger out in front of me.
"What are we, 12?" I took my finger in his. "Pinky promise I'll ignore it." He nodded satisfied. "Can I go now? I'm tired."
"Still not sleeping?"
"Nope." He crossed his arms. "It's fine." I raised my eyebrows, pulling my car keys out of my pocket. "Did I tell you about the new guy at work?"
"No but Robin did." He smirked now. "Sounds like you two have hit it off."
"We got on last year. He was interning when you guys were in America. We didn't hang out outside of work or anything but he's great. Hard worker, funny, easy to be around. Exactly what we need at the office. He fits right in." He nodded.
"Robin said you think he's cute."
"I mean-" I laughed loudly. "Yeah he is. I'm his manager though. Nothing could ever happen. Besides, my brain is a little occupied with someone else." He sighed and I turned walking to my car slowly.
"Lil!" I wound the window down as I sat in the car. "Will you come tomorrow night if I make sure she's not here?" I shrugged. I wouldn't. I didn't want to be around him either.
"Depends if I'm busy or not B." He looked disappointed. "I'll see you all soon. Chill. Text me."
"Always."
