"Lil." I turned my head at the whisper, looking up at Jas. "She's here."
"Already?" She nodded and I smirked, closing the laptop. "Hey guys! Come here." I walked down to the end of the stage. It had only been half an hour since I started working up here but they had just been walking around talking to people, sitting in random seats and then jumping over them as they chased each other around. They were literal children. Right now they were stood at the edge of the stage, looking up at me doe eyed. "I have a surprise."
"Another?" Bailey raised and eyebrows and I grinned nodding.
"Come on." I held my hand out to Robbie he grabbed it, pulling me off the stage. "You were supposed to come up."
"Like you could have pulled me up on stage." I mocked him as he picked me up, sitting me on the edge before climbing up himself and pulling me to my feet then wrapping his hand in mine. I feel like this little display was for a certain pair of eyes staring from over at the lighting set ups. It wasn't often he'd hold my hand. Never unless he was being protective and possessive. Like I belonged to him. I tried to shake my hand from his but he gripped on tighter. "I'm not dropping it so deal with it." I glared at Jas who just giggled. Thanks.
"So what's the surprise?" Aiden asked beside me and I looked up at him. Jas was walking us down to wherever she was so I didn't have to focus on where I was going. I'd get lost in here.
"I can't tell you. That would ruin it. Robin you need to let go." I turned back to him and he shook his head. "What is with you today?"
"I don't like him."
"You don't like anyone." I rolled my eyes at the same time as Bailey.
"Not for you I don't."
"Oh look who's getting possessive over something he doesn't own." I pulled my hand from his and he grumbled, grabbing my hip and pulling me into his side instead. "Oh my god calm down. It was one conversation. You didn't even know what got said."
"Didn't need to. I could see how he was looking at you. Didn't like it."
"I'm not his type." He looked at me and shrugged as we continued walking. I sighed. He'd be off this as soon as he saw her. He'd be too distracted to care. He needed to find some middle ground. "So this surprise-"
"Mhm."
"Nice change of conversation Lil." I looked at Bailey and put a finger over my lips.
"It's just for you." I looked at Robin who raised an eyebrow. "Thought you could use a distraction."
"Distraction from what?" I shrugged and smirked. "Not happening. You've got my full attention." We stopped walking and Jas moved to the side. I pushed him forward, forcing him to drop my hip. "What?"
"Go on."
"I feel like you're going to drop a bucket of water over me."
"Not at all. Can I have your phone and any electrical items though." I smiled sweetly and he shook his head. "Your prerogative."
"Go on then. I don't like waiting." Luke snapped and Robbie turned to face him. "I want to KNOW."
"No, I'm just gonna get dunked on or something."
"Oh my god." I rolled my eyes. "Fine. I'll go in first okay?" I stepped forward, pushing the door open and walking into the room. I smiled at her as she stood behind the door and I opened it wide. "See. Stop being so fucking dramatic. God. You're so hard to surprise." I grabbed his shirt, pulling him in as Bailey grabbed the door. I let go of him in the middle of the room, watching his face drop as I moved out of the way, letting him take in his girlfriend.
"Soph?"
"Hi Cutie." She smiled.
"What are you doing here?" He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Lilly asked me to come." He spun, dropping his hand as he looked at me.
"You?" I nodded. "Lil-" He stepped towards me and I spun him around, shoving him towards her.
"Have fun." I turned around and walked out, leaving them to talk about whatever they wanted. I told him I'd try. Maybe he got it now.
"Lil you didn't have to invite her down." I was halfway down the hallway when Bailey grabbed my hand.
"I know. I just felt bad. He obviously missed her and I said I'm going to try with her. Can't do that if she's not here can I?" He tilted his head. "It's fine Bailey. I just want him to be happy. That's it. if it's with her then fine." He shook his head, pulling me into a hug.
"You're such a good friend Lil. She doesn't deserve the kindness you're giving her. I hope he knows how lucky he is to have you."
"He fucking best do." I laughed as I stepped back. "I'm putting a lot on the line for her to be here."
"I know you are Lil." He kissed my forehead. "Hopefully he doesn't fuck it up this time."
"I hope he doesn't." I turned and we carried on walking back the way we came. I did still have work to do. "I'll be on the first flight home if he does though. If she says something and he doesn't respond. I'm gone. That was the agreement with Harry." He nodded.
"What's going on with you and Harry then? I know you've said you haven't slept with him and you're just friends-"
"Just that. He's literally just a friend who made me turn my head off him for a second."
"So you could follow him up with Will huh?" I snickered, looking up at him and crossing my arms as we walked. I could feel my cheeks flushing red. "He kept looking at you whilst you were working. Dropping all sorts. I think he was trying to get you to look up."
"He's convinced himself that I'm his type."
"If he asked you out, even though obviously Robin is dead against it, would you go? He's going to be around a lot anyway?"
"I mean-" I sighed. "Here's the thing right, What if I said no? To every guy he didn't like or every guy that wasn't him? Like, I could. I could just sit here patiently and wait for him for the tinniest possibility he might want me back eventually. But what if he never does? Am I just supposed to go my whole life waiting for something that's not going to come? I'm sick of waiting around, turning people down if he doesn't think they're suitable like he did before Evan. And even then he only liked Evan because they had a lot in common and look how that ended." He nodded slowly.
"I'm worried that I'll wait for him until I die, just waiting for him to be ready for me, to realise I've been right here all along. But it's not coming right? So why waste something that could be a lot of fun on something that's done nothing but cause me heartache and tears for nearly 2 years." We stood on the stage now, looking out at the empty stadium. Watching Will and his colleagues, lift up the rig they had been working on.
"I'm just going to let things play out. We'll see how it all goes." Will lifted his lips in a half smile and I tucked my hair behind my ear, turning to look up at Bailey. "I don't get why he doesn't like him. They've had like a single conversation right? Jasmine obviously trusts him or he wouldn't be here, you know what she's like."
"I just think its the bad boy persona maybe?"
"Hmm. Maybe." I raised an eyebrow and looked back at Will. "But Evan had the same kind of vibe and he loved him."
