Axel
Ruben and I go our different ways as the board meeting ends. I'm starving so I decide to head over to the kitchen to satisfy my hunger. I walk in and see Collin and Max are already there. The smell of grilled cheese is floating through the air which makes my stomach rumble. I'd skipped breakfast and since it's already 10:30 in the morning, I'm surprised I haven't barfed yet. Max isn't very good at cooking so that means Collin has made something. I walk further into the room and Max looks like she's crying. Collin is over by the stove. He looks over at me alarmed and Max wipes her face.
"Everything okay in here?" I ask.
"Yep!" They replied in unison. I know something is up but I don't want to push it. I walk over and take a seat at the counter.
"Why does it smell so freaking good in here?" I ask trying to lighten the mood.
"Collin made grilled cheese." Max mumbles. Figured. My nose never lies. He does make a pretty mean grilled cheese though.
"Any left?" I ask. Collin nods and hands me what seems to be his serving.
I shake my head. "Collin if that's yours then I don't want it."
Max interjects with "Why? You worried it has Collin germs in it?" with a grin on her face.
I look over to her and say "No such thing. It's his meal and he should eat something. I ate earlier anyway." It's a lie but Collin won't listen to me if I had said otherwise.
"Suit yourself." He says as he takes the plate back again. My eyes float around to distract myself when I notice where exactly Max is. Is- is she washing the dishes? I stare over in her direction with a puzzled look on my face.
"Are You-" She cuts me off halfway through my question with "Yes I'm washing my dishes by hand, deal with it!"
I think I have figured out why she's upset. I don't understand why dishes would make her upset though. Did Collin say something to offend her by chance? I look over to him and before I can ask he just shakes his head. I get the hint it's something that neither of them want to talk about. Max is probably still sensitive about the restriction I put in place this morning.
"How did the meeting go?" He asks.
I sigh. "Chaotic but we got somewhere." I reply.
"What is the meeting about?" Max asks. "The Northern Pack has gone missing and the surviver said they were attacked by fairies."
"By Fairies?! I knew they were real!" "Max it's not like that. Fairies don't exist and so because of that we've put everyone on lock down. We have the west pack's search party out looking for them now."
"It is like that Axel! It's a true myth! You guys are just too stubborn to believe in it! This could be the push we all need to break this Myth!"
"Max! I'm telling you they don't exist and that's final-"
"NO! Axel listen to me for once! I'm telling you that they are real! You're just scared that our kind will be endangered again!"
"We can't be endangered if they don't exist Maxine!"
"Don't you dare call me that! I will Challenge you Axel! I'm going to prove to you right here right now that I am strong enough to take care of myself!" "Whoa whoa! No need to challenge each other! We're in a kitchen for crying out loud!" Collin interjects.
"Oh hush Collin! I Will challenge him if that's what it takes!" She exclaims.
"Fine. You're on." I Say.
Collin
They Both gleam red sparks at each other and Axel warns, "Collin you might want to back out of the way." I'm already on it because I know that this is about to get really messy, really fast. It probably won't last long though because Max can't control it, no matter how hard she tries. Plus Axel has way more experience than she does.
Axel transforms into his brown and black splotched werewolf with blue eyes and Max transforms into her black werewolf with yellow eyes. Then it hits me. I have never actually seen her in her other form before. Her eyes don't match. Probably means she has enhanced sight. She looks beautiful. Her shining black fur looks so soft and her eyes are like lights in the darkness. A chill goes down my spine. Axel snarls at her. They are pacing in a circle around each other. To be honest there is a part of me that is rooting for Max no matter how much I know she is going to lose.
I hear the door silently open and see that Ruben had entered. I shoo him away with my hand. If he see's Max loose he will tell the whole pack and embarrass her which I'm not going to let happen. He looks confused and I glare at him. He gets the message I think and backs off. As soon as I'm sure he's left the room I go back to watching the challenge that's taking place.
Before I Know it, Axel has her pinned on the ground with his teeth on her neck. He isn't hurting her obviously but he's locked his jaw to the point were she doesn't have a choice but to stop moving or she will have his teeth in her throat. I think she grasps that and stops moving. Eventually Axel gets up and howls to point out the fact that he's won the challenge.
He changes back but Max doesn't. I'd forgotten that she doesn't have control of when she changes back or not. I grab a glass of cold water and chuck it at her. That always did the trick during training for me growing up. She looks up at me with her yellow eyes and for a moment I don't think it's working but it did because she changes back. "What the heck was that for?!" She explodes at me.
"It helped didn't it?" I ask trying to stay calm.
"Yes except for the fact that I am now wet!" she says through her teeth, obviously upset. I don't think she's entirely upset at me though. I think it's because she's probably embarrassed about loosing. I don't know what she was thinking though, Challenging our leader like that.
"Was that enough proof for you?" Axel asks, death starring Max. She glares at him and runs off clearly upset. Before running to catch up with her I give him a look saying 'What the heck dude' and I run off to catch up with her.
