The Broken Myth

Chapter Ten

My Body is numb. The pack leaders swarm the questioning room talking non stop. I can hear snippets of conversations like " He's crazy" or  "Just a liar ".  I can't let them get to me though. I know what I saw and it's real. It's their choice to believe me or not. I just need to make it through the questioning so I can find her, save her.  

Axel sits down and asks me if I'm ready. Of course I wasn't, I watched my best friend be taken away by those monsters because I couldn't keep her safe. I absentmindedly shake my head and Axel keeps trying to reassure me that it's all going to be okay. 

Before I know it the leaders have situated themselves into seats. They stare at me with furious eyes. It goes dead silent for a couple of seconds until Axel speaks up.

"Sorry to call you all back so late but as Ruben informed you, Maxine has been taken. We need her back quickly before she meets the queen. If we act fast we can catch them." 

"HA! You want that weirdo around? She isn't even a full werwolf!" Scott states while grinning. 

Wait a minute. Did he say not a full werewolf? What the heck is that supposed to mean? She is a werewolf, I literally saw her change into one 3 hours ago! My face must have been showing confusion because Axel sighs and says "Look no one is supposed to know Collin, so just keep that low. I'll explain later." 

"What??? No no no tell me now!!" I exclaim. 

"I will later-"  he starts but Scott cuts him off halfway through and asks "You seriously haven't told him yet?"

"I was getting too it" Is all Axel says through his teeth.  I'm so confused right now. What the hell are they talking about? You can only ever be full werewolf! 

"Look kid, have you ever wondered why she can never control her werwolf?" Scott asks. I did wonder from time to time but I never really ever thought about it. She didn't need to control it. She's perfect the way she is.   

"Scott don't-" Axel says trying to get Scott to stop talking. 

"If it's about Max then I want to know Axel." I snap. I'm tired and feel gross but I can't leave. I need Scott to finish what he's  saying. 

"You heard the kid." Scott says smiling mischievously. Axel sighs and nods obviously nervous about what Scott is about to say. 

"She's a Hybrid." 

Wait- WHAT?! A HYBRID?! That's just a legend!! No one has seen a Hybrid in decades!! I think the shock on my face is visible because Scott starts chuckling and Axel has his hands on his face. I try to say something but the words won't come out. 

"Again, keep it low Collin. It can't go public, especially because of what her other half is."  Axel states.

Other half? "What- What do you mean? What's her other half?" I ask terrified to know if I'm right. 

"She's a mix between Werewolf....and Fairy." Scott says but this time there's a twinge of fear in his voice. 

"Which is why we need her back because it means one of her parents is fairy, the other is werewolf. It took us a while to realize what was wrong with her." Axel continues. 

"What? Nothing is wrong with her! Her parents are dead anyway so what value is she to the Queen?" I ask. I'm beginning to be paranoid with their whole secrecy thing. 

"Because one parent survived. The Queen of the fairies." Axel replies looking me dead in the eyes, worry and fear etched into every line of his face.
