Burton stared at Payal and closed the door not making any sound. He changed his clothes and sat on bed and observed Payal for a while, her back is facing him. She is getting tensed, he slowly removed her veil and caressed her hair carefully so she won't wake up, he leaned and inhaled aroma of her hair which is making Payal uncomfortable, she is gulping down in fear recalling his past actions. He kissed on her hair, she gripped the pillow, " I love you my lady, I hope our differences get cleared soon" he whispered and covered her with bedsheet and slowly wrapped his arm around her waist and slept beside her.
In middle of night she got up and find him sleeping, she slowly got down from bed and took out the knife she hide and gripped it tightly. She recalled the evening incident:
Burton came to home and waiting in porch for someone. While Payal is observing everything from a small distance.
Soon a solider came and saluted to him and said " sire, here is the sketch of that Veer", Burton took the sketch and gritted his teeth looking at it, while the solider speak " sire, we have only this copy of the sketch remaining will get ready in a couple of days, so we can paste them in streets" Burton said sternly " till then show this sketch to everyone in the village and other villages also, ride each and every home to make sure he is not hiding anywhere, Search him in every possible places, I want him at any cost"
Solider nodded his head and left the place, Payal heard everything but she don't know that someone is watching her.
Now:
Payal stared at the knife in her hand and at Burton who is sleeping peacefully. She walked to him and stood there.
" kill him, it is the only way you can save Veer and yourself, just do it don't think twice.... recall how he destroyed your life how he killed your family, don't your blood boil? Killing a ruthless person is not a sin, do it...I said do it..." her inner self is shouting at her.
She raised her hand in air to stab him, Perhaps she suddenly felt a pull in her arm and someone closed her mouth with their palm and dragged her to downstairs. While she kept wriggling all the way. They reached a dark corner.
" sshh" the person said, blocking her between his arms and wall. Payal is terrified completely.
" I'm no threat to you, trust me. I will remove my hand, but you won't shout okay" He said looking into her terrified eyes. She nodded in yes. He slowly removed his hand but she is about to shout for help perhaps stopped as the person removed the cloth covering his face.
" Veer!" She uttered in shock and her eyes welled up,he hugged her and said " I promised you that I will save you from Burton, I came to fulfill my promise, let's go we have less time"
" how you came here"? She asked, he realized his act and moved away from her and said " I reached her this morning disguised as a servant, and tried to meet you but it doesn't happen, I also find you hearing his plan" " are you okay, he passed a search order against you, he won't leave you, he had your sketch also, go far away from here" she said. " listen to me Payal, I will take care of myself but now you're coming with me, that's it" he said and held her arm and moved to walk. " no, I can't come with you" she said Shocking him. " why?" He asked strictly. " because if I stay here I can foil his future plans" she said, he got irritated and said " no... no need to do that, I'm a rebellion and so many people are there for me to help and support, but who are with you to help, tell me?" " you said you have people to help you, then assume me as one of them and leave me here, so that I can help my motherland indirectly" she said and yanked her arm from his grip and walked.
" listen to me if I can't save you now, then I can't save you ever! because I'm going to kill an officer coming from England, I don't know I will be alive after that attack or not, so try to understand and come with me don't spoil your life" he said blocking her way.
" I don't want a rebellion like you to be at risk because of me, please go from here before anyone find you" she requested him.
" are you mad don't you understand, If not now then never, this time I'm not leaving from here without you." He said sternly.
To which she replied sternly " can't you understand, you're a rebellion I'm just a stranger to you, then why are you so keen on saving my life!" He got hurt by her words, but hide his emotions.
" I can ask same question to you, why are you keen on saving me then?" He asked stepping towards her making her to step back. " because you're a rebellion and people like you are needed in saving our country from slavery" she said stepping forward looking into his eyes making him step back.
As they are arguing like that, Burton suddenly woke up from his sleep by thunder sound and stared to his side and got tensed up not finding Payal there. " where is she!" He thought coming out of his room. " did she ran away again! this time she is testing my patience" he said climbing down the steps. " useless guards, can't perform their duty, have to teach them a lesson" he cursed.
