CHAPTER FIVE:

Caius tosses his head back and lets out a loud laugh which causes my insides to get all fuzzy before he looks at his brothers and says, " Finally someone who hates that stupid boy as much as I do." Then he looks at me and his eyes soften, "You are exquisite, Tesoro."

"Ahh yes, That reminds me, I have a call to make." Aro mumbles and pulls out his cell phone.

A moment later it is ringing on speaker phone then a familiar voice answers, "Aro, my friend, how are you doing?"

"Carlisle, I'm feeling both happy and irritated at the moment. I've called to discuss a recent trial involving your children. Are you somewhere private where you can talk?" Aro replies and the command to get somewhere private if he isn't already is clear in Aro's voice.

"I'm in my home office, we can speak freely. What trial and what did my children do?" He asked, sounding confused and worried.

"Your son came to us requesting death because of the death of his mate, Isabella Swan. Turns out she was not dead and instead it turned into a trial regarding the exposure of our kind. Carlisle you know better than most that the law is absolute. Your son foolishly exposed us to ms. Swan without the intent to turn her and then proceeded to leave her without supervision for several months. Anything could have happened in that time." Aros' voice was calm but firm and held a reprimanding tone.

"I understand, Aro. I have urged Edward to change the girl. Can I ask what the trial verdict was, my friend?" Carlisle asked, the stress and worry in his voice clear.

Aro glanced at me before answering," Under normal circumstances you know the punishment for breaking this law. Normally both the human and vampire responsible would have been executed." He paused, I'm assuming for dramatic effect before continuing, "However there was a special circumstance. As it turns out Young Alice brought another human with her into the heart of our castle." I heard Carlisle suck in a sharp breath making Caius smirk at his obvious discomfort before Aro continued, "That human happened to be the mate of my brothers and myself." Now all three pairs of red eyes were laser focused on me as my eyebrows shot up.

Mate? As in soul mate? AS IN THREE SOUL MATES?!

I could feel myself pale as I battled the urge to curl into myself to hide my body.

How am I supposed to be their mate? Why would they get stuck with someone like me? They look like freaking Greek god statues! They put Adonis to shame! How the fuck am I supposed to handle this?

"She also happens to be Isabella's older cousin so as you can guess we have made an exception this one time." Aro says, emphasizing the last part, "We have given your coven one year to help Ms. Swan get her affairs in order and finish school before being changed. At the end of the year we will be confirming her transition and if it is not complete we will be bringing her here and changing her and your son will be punished to the full extent of the law. Our hope is that he listens and we can forget this whole mess. I wanted to inform you personally of the judgment so that there is no room for miscommunication."

"Thank you, My king. I will hold to the verdict and change the girl myself before the year is up. Congratulations on finding your mate. I wish you all many happy years." Carlisle answers, sounding resolved to the situation.

"We will let you go now, My friend. Give Esme and your other children our best." Aro says before ending the call and turning his full attention back to me.

"Cara mia, are you alright?" He asks gently, reaching for me before hesitantly grabbing one of my shaking hands with his gloved one.

"M-mates?" I ask, unsure if it means the same thing to them as it does in the books I've read.
