Chapter Twenty-One

CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

"What in the ever loving fuck do you mean you're sending me home early?" I demanded, the low simmer pot of irritation in the bottom of my belly exploding into righteous fury the second the words 'You are going home tonight with your uncle and cousin while we clean up this mess.' left Aro's mouth.

My half eaten plate of nachos was forgotten at this point as I tried to comprehend the utter audacity of not just one but all three of my mates.

"It isn't safe here. There are too many newborns in the area and with the danger of the wolves added it just makes more sense to send you back while we deal with all of this. This is our job as the kings. We must make sure you are safe as we keep our world safe as well." Marcus tried to reason but frowned when my eye narrowed in his direction.

"We aren't sending you alone, Casissima. Your family and a couple of the guards are going with you. It would give us all peace of mind while we do our job." Caius added onto his brother's argument, futile as it may be.

"I'm not going back to Volterra without you three and my kids! Not happening! What if you need my help? What if you are hurt because of something I could have warned you about?" I argued back, worry and anger warring in equal measures to explode on the overprotective idiots.

Marcus stood firm and Caius looked indignant but Aro looked to be actually considering my words.

Well at least one of you sees that I'd actually be an asset in the fight, not just an easy target. It's not like I'm asking to be on the damn battlefield!

"What does your gift say now?" Aro asked, placing both hands on the large map covered table in the meeting room and leaning his weight on it while he waited for an answer.

Without missing a beat I answered, "Something unexpected is going to happen but my gift is not being clear on what it is and it's not good or bad, more neutral in nature but I have no idea what it is or when. It could be literally anything."

The fact that my so-called 'gift' is choosing now of all time to short out on me is annoying. My gut is telling me it's going to piss some people off though.

What's going to happen? Is someone hurt? Does the batter end differently than we planned? Does bo bo the laughing fucking clown show up and give the newborns balloon animals? WHAT'S GOING ON?!

"See?" Caius points out, uncrossing his arms and moving closer to where I was sitting across the room on the bench the guard usually used, "We have nothing to worry about and you don't need to be here for us to do our job. You can be far away, safe with your family where we do not have to worry and we can focus on the fight."

"UGH!" I groaned furiously, "You don't get it! What about my peace of mind? I'll be a wreck! Am I not your Queen? It's my job too, damnit!" I protested, my voice rising louder with each word until I was basically shouting at them.

"You are our mate and yes, in our minds you are our Queen but you still need to have a formal introduction to be able to start an acting role as a sovereign of our world in an official capacity." Marcus rebutted and seemed to catch his mistake the moment the hurt flashed through me.

"So I'm only your Queen when you're sleeping with me. Got it. You know what? Fine, whatever. Send me home like a petulant child. Don't expect to be welcomed with open arms when you return. I will not continue to be treated like an useless child to be sent away any time you think there's a little bit of danger. I'm always in danger! Every second my heart beats, I am in danger and sending me back across the ocean on a screaming metal death trap is not going to fix that!" I grabbed my plate and stood ignoring the frustrated and hurt looks on their faces as I left the room and headed out of the meeting room and back down the stairs where the guards were doing their best to act like they hadn't heard every world of what just happened.
