"First time at a football event. Think about it that way", says Rúben, to help with my nerves.
It's finally the end of the season and City have organized a private dinner for players, the coaching staff and their families. And even though I've been meeting a lot of the people who will be here tonight in the last couple of months, I haven't met them all. And that makes me nervous.
We try avoiding photos together. And I avoid photos completely. The point? We are not sure, because everyone on social media seems to know we are together. But we are being stubborn. I know the moment we make it public, our relationship will stop being just ours and I'm not ready to let go.
"Can I talk about you two now without Rúben threatening to murder me?", asks John Stones when he reaches us. "I'm actually the reason why you got together. You should thank me".
"You are also the reason why she didn't speak to me for weeks", points Rúben out.
"If you only want to see the negative side of things, I can't stop you, Rubes".
I laugh and shake my head at the two of them.
"You're welcome, beautiful", says John, winking at me before leaving.
I see another photographer and hide behind Rúben.
"What are you...oh".
"Sorry, it's a reflex by now".
"Don't worry. But maybe we should talk about not hiding anymore?", his look tells me he is really looking forward to this secret not really being a secret anymore. Hiding can be a little exhausting.
"Just not today. I have a big event in two days and there will be a lot of press. I don't want it to be about me because of you".
"So...".
"The holidays. We can make it Instagram official then".
