JIMIN POV
I sat back and let him struggle.
He didn't have many—or any—options and we both knew it.
If he needed a minute to come
to terms with his new reality, then so be it but he would confess before I left this room. The holy grail would be getting him to rat out Jiwoo but I would not hold my breath on that.
Even a two-faced snitch had
their pride."Why are you saying
this?" Miguel finally asked."Miguel." I said, leaning
forward to rest my hands between us on the table.I stood until he had to look up into my face.
The innocent exterior he wore
so well slipped away and he bared his teeth at me."I'm not one to encourage the harming of innocent women and children, I don't want to see your family hurt for your actions."
I leaned even farther forward until I could smell the stench of nervous sweat on him, a smile stuck on my face that I tried to make comforting but I knew
was far more gloating."So tell me what I need to
know and I will immediately put them into protective custody.""You'll go to jail but with the evidence we have against you, you would have anyways and your family will get a new life."
"Jiwoo wouldn't ever be able to get his hands on them again."
"Your daughters will get to
grow up."I stayed there, bent at an awkward angle, smelling the stink of another upset alpha while my back started to ache.
His jaw twitched.
Finally, he bowed his head but when he looked up, his eyes let me know if he ever got a chance, he already knew where he'd
bury my body."What do you want to know pendejo ?"
"Aw, don't be that way." I joked, feeling my stomach settle back down into my insides where it belonged.
"Besides, I know all the best swear words, cuño."
That got me an unplanned laugh from our suspect and he sat back a little in his seat, seeming to relax now that he'd decided to play ball with us.
Jih walked out of the interrogation room in front of me about an hour later and I felt
like I could breathe properly for the first time since this whole mess with hobi's father erupted.Yes, this case was far more personal than we were supposed to let one become I knew that and Jih knew that but we weren't exactly swimming in detectives
in Busan, either.I had to see this storm through to the end and give hobi peace
of mind, a small consolation in place of his father but it was all
I could give.Miguel had confessed
everything we needed. He had been the one to make
the fatal shot but he had been hired by Jiwoo to do so.He said he had never been in contact directly with Jiwoo, just one of his men but it was still enough of a link to give us
what we needed to nail Jiwoo
to the ground. The feds would have a field day filing charges once we gave
them all the evidence we had collected. In the end, Miguel would probably end up in federal max security.
I made the call to move Miguel's family directly into protective custody and dealt with a mixture of fury and that satisfying feeling of a job well done as I spied on him through the two-way mirror while I used the intercom to tell him they were safe.
