JUNGKOOK POV

I needed to talk to Jimin.

He knew I didn't handle him keeping me in the dark well.

I couldn't stop wondering if
he was covering something
up until he could tell me
good news, like last time?

What had fallen apart with
his case?

It occurred to me that this
didn't necessarily have any
thing to do with the man who tried to cut my brakes and
Jiwoo but honestly, it
seemed unlikely.

I ducked out of the way into a side corridor and called Jimin.

The phone rang for far too
long before it was answered.

"Hello?" He sounded tired.

I felt like I wilted right there
in the hospital hallway.

Guilt battered at me for
being so relieved when there were so many wounded
but I couldn't help it.

"Hello? Baby?" His voice again.

My knees gave out in relief
and I sank to the floor
against the wall.

"Alpha, you really are
okay." I barely breathed
the words but somehow he
heard me.

"Oh, hell. You know."

"Of course you do."

"I'm fine, sweetheart." he said.

I could hear noises in the background.

Sirens, yelling, the
pounding of feet running.

It didn't sound like
anything was fine.

"I need you to make sure you aren't alone." Jimin's voice
cut through my thoughts.

"What? Why?"I asked.

"We're pretty sure this was Jiwoo again and I want to
make sure you are safe."

"Stay alert and stay in a
group until I can get to you."

"Where are you? Jih—"

"Yes, is he okay?"

The urgency in his voice
assured me I was right in thinking he'd be here if he
could.

"Yeah."

"He's in surgery now but
when I saw him he was
talking and alert."

"It looks good."

I told him, happy to be the
one comforting for once.

"Thank you." Someone on his end was yelling and drowned
him out for a moment.

"–be there as soon as I
can, until then—"

"Until then I'll stay safe, I promise." I reassured him.

"but you too, got that
alpha?"

"Yes baby, me too."

"I'll stay safe." he promised.

I could hear something in
his voice.

I hesitated to call it love
but it was a warmth I'd only heard directed toward me a
few other times in my life, all from people I loved deeply.

We both had work to do, so
I ended the call and went
back to the ER, determined
to make sure other families
and loved ones had the same relieving night I did and that
no one lost anyone on my
watch.

When I got home later that
night I found Jimin in the kitchen, pouring a cup of
coffee he probably didn't
need this late at night.

Ignoring the hot brew and everything else in the room,
I ran at him.
