JIMIN POV

I held his gaze the whole time
so he'd know I wasn't keeping anything from him or trying to hide anything.

His shoulders relaxed and he seemed appeased.

We smiled at each other for a moment, almost goofy in the candlelight.

The rest of the night was filled with laughter, another serving of the decadent dessert and long glances that grew more heated as the evening continued and
the wine flowed.

The snickers and snorts of laughter were usual for us but the glances were fresh and
new and so very welcome.

After all these years, I never thought I'd be lucky enough to be on the receiving end of a
look that almost stripped me naked from Jeon Jungkook.

I drove Jungkook home and walked him through the chilly night to his door to kiss him goodbye.

"Come in." he asked, breathless.

He gripped my hips and urged me closer to show me how
ready he was for me.

I almost crumbled.

Jungkook, hard, his eyes soft
and inviting...

he was a fantasy come to life.

My own dick plumped up more when he ran his tongue across his bottom lip and kicked a slow sizzle of need through my body that had me dropping another soft kiss on his lips.

I wanted to keep my promise.

"Soon, sweetheart but I haven't earned the privilege of sharing your bed yet." I ran my hands
up his arms and nervously massaged his shoulders.

If he pushed this, I'd end up inside him tonight and it probably wouldn't be the end of the world but I wanted him to know I wasn't only after his
ass and that knotting him
wasn't my only goal here.

He blushed for the umpteenth time, making me laugh, which made him laugh in turn.

Our last kiss of the night was
so full of laughter we could hardly make our mouths meet, and somehow it was still my favorite.

I'd never had a lover who was also a friend and I was starting to realize just what a prize I
had, if only I could keep him.

The next day, still riding high on the wonderful date we'd shared, I almost didn't notice the man leaning against the side of my cruiser as I left work.

One glance at him and I knew
he was one of Jiwoo's men.

I'd seen his face in surveillance snapshots pulled from one of
the many stakeouts of Jiwoo's business operations, I struggled to recall his name but couldn't.

The guy was a tall, gangly red headed guy who was almost more of a kid than a man.

The way the kid looked at me with this glint in his eye, the
kind that hinted at action but also at violence even an alpha like me tried to stay away
from those sorts of looks.

It was the way he stood
slouched against the cruiser without a care in the world,
as if he knew full well there
was nothing any cop could do
to stop him.

I wanted to stop him and his boss but I didn't know how yet.

Seeing him there, a human message clearly waiting to deliver the threat I'd been anticipating ever since I took on this case, made my blood boil.

I needed to solve this case,
to take them down.

I'd promised Jungkook that I would be safe but I knew I wouldn't be able to keep that promise entirely because I wouldn't be able to give up
this case. Not now.
