JUNGKOOK POV

Sweat dripped down into my eyes as I ran along the sidewalk.

Stars were beginning to peep
out through the pink and purple of the twilight sky overhead.

Cool air stung my nose as I
drew in deep breaths and a
cloud puffed out in front of me.

Soon I'd be swearing about the summer heat but for now I ran faster to avoid freezing to death.

My phone rang, loud and annoying and I flinched.

Slowing enough that I could unzip the pocket on my jogging hoodie, I worried for a moment that it was San before I remembered I'd blocked him.

I hadn't heard from him since that day.

I still checked the call display, and breathed out a sigh of relief when I saw that it was hobi instead.

"Hey hobi, what's up?"I asked, answering the phone happily now.

"Jungkook." Hobi's voice was rough and faded, as if he'd
been crying.

I stopped so abruptly that I stumbled and had to catch myself against a tree.

I was instantly on alert.

The last time I'd heard him like this was the night his father
had died, something I did
not want to repeat.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

"I can't believe he'd lie
like that."

"Now I have to worry about
Tae? Fuck, I can't do this anymore."

"I don't want to worry that
the people I love won't come home."

"After everything."

"Just when we were trying...."

"Fuck, I-I don't know...." He dissolved into crying again.

Something was really wrong,
but I couldn't help until I could figure out what the issue was.

"Hobi breathe please, just
take a deep breath in."

I waited, listening until I could hear him do so. "Good, then breathe out nice and slow."

The sound of a shaky breath carried down the line toward me.

"You're going to be a great
nurse one day." Hobi said but
he still didn't sound like himself.

I smiled but then realized what he was doing. "Don't even think about trying to distract me."

"What's up, hope?" I insisted.

He sighed heavily.

"I don't know if I should tell
you, It kinda involves Jimin and
I know you and I are friends
but he's your bestie and well..."

"Other things."

I flinched.

How many of my friends knew
of my helpless, unrequited affection for Jimin?

Someday he'd catch on and I'd just go crawl under a rock
some where because he'd be
all sweet about it and ugh.

I shivered and made myself
pay attention to hobi.

"Tell me." I said in my most
firm, no-nonsense voice.

He sighed heavily again before explaining.

He told me about the newest curve in the road for the crap surrounding his father's killer, about Jimin and Tae keeping
the shooter's true target a
secret and how even his
mother was involved in
keeping him in the dark.
