JIMIN POV

Later that night when I saw Jungkook, he threw himself
into my arms and kissed me.

He beamed a wide,white smile my way.

"Good job, detective." he whispered in that playful voice that always got me hard now.

I reached for his belt, ready
to get to my reward but he stepped back, something in
his eyes I didn't like.

"But please, don't ever lie
to me again." he said.

I felt like my heart stopped.

"I didn't lie to you, I just
waited to tell you until—"

"I don't care what the
reason was."

His voice was firm, like
I'd only heard it a few times.

He meant business, I just
didn't know why this was
such a big deal.

"It was for work."

I shoved my hands into my pockets and tried not to glare.

"I don't care what your reasoning, you can't keep something like that from me."

"To protect me."

"Or to surprise me."

"I've been going out of my
mind worrying that my car
might get fucked with again
and for the last three days I wouldn't have had to."

"It's you treating me like....."

And suddenly I got it.

He thought I was acting like he wasn't strong enough or smart enough to deal with problems while they were happening.

Maybe he was still worried I thought the things he'd heard
a million times from those assholes he'd dated before me.

I knew the crap he'd heard thrown at his omega dad by
his father during his entire childhood was similar, as well.

I pulled him to me, despite
his slight resistance.

"You're right and you are
not weak or dumb"

"You are smart And strong
and valuable and amazing
and I'll never keep anything
from you again."

His whole body relaxed and
when he looked up at me
again, the fired-up glint in
his eyes was back.

"Promise?" he asked, already undoing my belt buckle.

All right, I guessed the fight
was over but in the back of
my mind I made sure to remember not to try to
shield him like he wasn't
capable of handling reality.

He's an adult and maybe I wanted to protect him from
as much as possible but I'd
respect his wishes.

A few days later Tae and hobi gathered us all together at their house to announce something, although by that point, we had all confidently guessed they
were announcing baby news.

"To hobi and Tae." Everyone cheered and raised their glasses.

Jin had brought cupcakes with edible baby rattles on top that had everyone groaning and
silent for the two minutes it
took to devour the entire dozen and then we moved on to munching other snacks.

I couldn't take my eyes off of hobi and Tae that night, for
more than one reason.

I watched them at first to
make sure that they were
happy together again.

I was much more invested in their relationship than I'd been
in my friends' relationships before but it was because I partially blamed myself for their breakup and I felt responsible
for causing them problems.
