"Good morning." Emma greeted me as she walked into the kitchen where I was drinking some tea.
"Good morning to you too."
"I have a checkup at the doctor's office next week and I need you to come with me."
"I don't have a problem coming with you but where is Niko going to be?"
"Out of the country."
"Didn't know that he was traveling."
"He'll be gone until the weekend I think." He hadn't taken a business trip outside of the country in a few months, not that I minded him being gone because it meant that I could get some freedom. Even though he said he was easing up off my back, I was still looking over my shoulder so I wished he would go and stay longer.
"Okay, I got you."
"Thanks Lila." She checked her watch and sighed. "Are you heading out now?"
"I am."
"Can you drop me off before you go to work?"
"If you can wait until I pick my friend up."
"I don't mind, I'll do anything so I don't have to drive."
"Okay." I grabbed my stuff and went to wait for her in the car so we could leave.
•••••••••"Mi hungry girl."
"Same." It had been a busy morning and we were just now getting the chance to really sit down. We took the elevator down to the lunch room and it wasn't packed today which was a bonus because I hated crowds. Kareem wasn't too happy about me not eating lunch with him in his office anymore and even though he didn't voice his displeasure, he couldn't hide it well.
"Mi think di meeting would a neva end."
"Can I tell you."
"Oh, I see Dacia." She was waving frantically at us trying to gain our attention from a table in the back corner of the lunch room or "dining room" according to Kareem. He wasn't wrong because it was set up like you would a nice dining room with nice tables and chairs and it was always clean. "Yuh hand dem good?" Tara asked as we got to the table and sat down.
"Weh yuh mean?"
"Yuh did a wave out baxide."
"Gweh nuh Tee."
"A suh yuh did look." Tee said as she mocked her and we laughed.
"Just leave me alone miss, cyaan stand yuh." She placed a brown paper bag on the table and opened it. "I have secured the merchandise."
"Good cause mi a dead."
"How long now since it reach?"
"The delivery guy walked out just as you guys were getting off the elevator." I had ordered a box food because truth be told, I hadn't eaten it in a while and I was tired of the same food everyday. She handed the box to me and I opened it to be met with the rice and peas, pasta and fried chicken with curry gravy that made my mouth water.
