How it all started..

1995
"Tamika stop! You know I hate sharing my chips.." Kandi snatched the bag back for the other girl after she grabbed a second large handful.
"Mmcht— I bought them for you with your stingy ass.." She sucked her teeth and continued to eat the chips in her hand.
"Exactly you bought them for me. Meaning they're mine."
"Alright I won't buy you shit next time.." Tamika said, causing Kandi to pout.
The two girls were in Tamika's room watching a movie after a long day of rehearsals. This had become a regular occurrence for the two of them.
With her mother at work and her sister doing God knows what she had the opportunity to chill with Kandi freely. The two of them would watch movies, play games, and chill for long periods of time just the two of them. They enjoyed each others company that much. It just felt right.
They loved being around one another because it brought out sides of themselves they weren't
familiar with.
They were inseparable as they always had been but in recent years it grew into something a little deeper. It's was the energy they had together that made them feel high. It was something that couldn't be denied by anyone.
This energy brought a chemistry between them that was often mistaken for a romantic attraction. One that either girl didn't seem to have a problem with but something was stopping them.
Platonic or not the bond they shared was appreciated by each girl. They made no attempt to hide their feelings but never acted on them. Agreeing that nothing good would come from them being together.
Ruining a long-term friendship wasn't ideal and dividing a music group that was already seemingly on the rocks wasn't either.
Not to mention that Tamika had an evil mother and even more evil sister. Those ties always complicated things.
"Shit, it's almost six I better leave before they get home.." Kandi spoke up, untangling herself from Tamika.
"You're right. I'll walk you out.."
They hugged briefly inside of Tamika's room taking in the moment. "I wish you could just come with me.." Kandi whispered.
"Maybe one day.." She sadly smiled as she pulled back to see Kandi's face. Kandi looked down only to have her face gently picked back up.
"Hey.. I know, but it's not forever, right?"
"I wouldn't have to be now either. If you just leave with me."
"Kandi, you know I'm saving up to get my own place on my own time. We have this same conversation over and over.."
"I'm sorry if I hope that one day when I ask, you just say yes. I put myself out there every time and there's always an excuse."
"You know it's way bigger than that. I can't just leave." Tamika sighed.
"But you can Tamika. You're the only one stopping you.." Kandi moved from out of Tamika's hold and grabbed her purse before adding "Walk me out?"
Tamika nodded reluctantly. Kandi's statement left no room for any response. Tamika knew the ball was in her court. She could leave at any time but something was holding her back. As soon as the opened the bedroom door she was reminded of just what was holding her back.
