The next morning Kie woke up and went down stairs for breakfast with her family.
"Good morning guys" Kie says as she made her way into the kitchen
"Hey sweetheart, good morning" her mom says, chirpy. She was at the stove making breakfast
"Good morning honey" her dad says, giving her a hug
"You weren't TOO hard on him last night, we're you dad?" Kie asks carefully
"Ah I'm not too sure it's him I should be hard on" Mike says,
"He told you..?" Kie asks, nervously
"He didn't have to" Mike gently scolds "I was out on the balcony when you two pulled up, I heard the whole thing"
"Oh.." Kie says nervously, hoping she wouldn't be in trouble.
"We talked about it though" Mike says, sitting back down at the bar stool.
"Are you mad..?" Kie asked slowly
"I'm just happy nobody got hurt" Mike responds "what you did was stupid though kiara and I hope you know that"
"yea... I do" she admits, sitting down next to him at the bar.
At JJs house, his dad had helped him clean up his hand and eye that night. He didn't understand why exactly his dad had been so good to him lately. Well.. as good as Luke could could be at least. They hadn't fought in almost a week, and JJ started to feel more comfortable going home.
"Damn that eye of yours still lookin pretty bad son the helld you even do" Luke asks the next morning when JJ walked out onto the porch
"Kooks" JJ shrugs "had to give it to em" he brags to his dad who was already drinking.
"Get you one" his dad says, gesturing to the cooler
"Nahh, i got work" JJ said, scratching his head "hey but maybe tonight?"
JJ nervously bit the bottom of his lip waiting for his dad to reply
"Beers always here" his dad shrugs, not wanting to make it formal.
"Cool" JJ says casually. He was relieved and headed to the marina.
That night, the pogues met up at the chateau to hang out, and to de-stress over what happened at prom. Except for JJ. He explained the situation with his dad to Kie, and went straight back home after work.
"Where is JJ?" Sarah asked after someone brought him up. They all sat around in the living room.
"Believe it or not he's at his dads" Kie announced, knowing they'd be shocked. "There 'drinking beers and catching up' so he called it"
"Oh.. how do you feel about that" Sarah asks, a little worried
"Well, I mean I'm glad his dads not being a douche bag, but.. it's also a little worrying" Kie admits
"JJs really trying to get his life on track... are we sure his dads that best person for him to be influenced by right now" John b says, concerned.
"Yea I know.. that's what I'm afraid of" Kie says, taking a sip of beer.
"He'll be fine" pope says hopefully "right.."
"Yea I mean I trust him" Kie says, hopefully as well "just, I don't trust his dad"
"End of the day" John b says "JJ will make the right choice"
"Yea, I'm sure he will" Kie says, matching John b optimistic tone. Deep down Kie was still worried though. She wants JJ to have a good relationship with his dad, she knows how much that means to him. She just didn't want him to get hurt again.
At JJs house, him and luke talked for hours on the back porch. No personal attacks or passive aggressive comments were made. They just talked about life
He told his dad about his job, his school, and Kie, and all that they had been through.
Luke seemed a little upset every time he talked about Kie though. JJ noticed but chose to ignore it.
"Dad, I'm serious about what I said the other day, I really want you to meet her soon" JJ said, hopefully.
Luke paused.
"Love, son" Luke said, looking down at his beer and taking a sip "nothing but trouble."
"Makes people do stupid things, and people get hurt" he continues.
JJ looked at his dad who now looked sad.
"Tell you what, I knew a girl one time" his dad said, reminiscing. "She built me up, made me think she'd never leave and then" he snaps his fingers
He paused and looked over at JJ
"n' here I am 16 years later, with not a clue in the world of where she is"
"mom?" JJ asks, surprised since they never talk about her.
"Mhm" Luke Said, sadly "If you can even call her that"
"She left me with nothing but a kid that I had no clue how to raise" Luke chuckled "guess that's why I'm so hard on you sometimes, I've never known what I was doing.. still don't" he admits
"Guess I didn't do too bad though ay?" Luke says, patting JJ on the shoulder "you didn't turn out so bad" he laughed
JJ let out a light laugh, but still couldn't stop thinking about all that his dad had put him through
"I guess what I'm trying to say is" Luke starts "I'm proud of you son, even if I haven't always said it.. I'm proud of you"
JJ sat there a soaked up his words
"Ight well" Luke says, getting up with his hand on JJs shoulder "I'm headin to bed, finish up them beers if you want"
JJ stayed outside for a while longer after luke left. He thought about it all. Was he able to let go of There past if Luke was willing to change?
