"Dad" kie said as she was coming down the stairs
He was just coming inside from the porch with a glass of wine In his hand.
"Hey sweetie" he smiled softly
"Dad since when are you moving to florida?" Kie asked with a hint of attitude. "And why is JJ finding out before me?"
"He told you already?" Mike asked, slightly rolling his eyes as he heard JJs voice come from her room upstairs. He knew he wasn't allowed up there
"Yes. Dad. It's kinda the type of you News you'd want tell the people you're close to right away" she snapped back. "He's in there acting like the clouds just opened up and handed him a wade of cash, and I couldn't even be happy for him because I just found out that my parents are moving hours away without even telling me."
"Baby I didn't tell you because I didn't know" Mike tried to explain
"What do you mean you didn't know" kie asked
"If he didn't take it, then it wouldn't happen." Mike said. "I didn't want to tell you anything until I was 100% sure it was happening."
Kie shot him a confused look.
"Kiara, The Wreck is my baby, you know that" he explained. "I can't just give it over to anyone."
She sighed
"I always planned for it to be yours, but you said you didn't want that responsibility, which I completely understand" he said "and now that I have someone else I can trust to keep that place afloat- I had to take that opportunity."
"When?" Kie asked
"I mean we'll have to go back down there a couple times to get the place all cleaned up and sign on it and everything but, we wouldn't move for another 4 years or so" he explained "your gonna love this location though kiara, really, it's beautiful"
A small grin grew on her face
"You trust him?" She smiled and looked him in the eyes
"I do" he smiled back
"I just wish it wasn't so far" Kie gave in and hugged her dad
"Really? I figured you couldn't wait to get away from us" Mike joked
"Right but- not actually" she replied
"Ahh you won't even notice we're gone." He tried to cheer her up "besides, we'll be down all the time to visit and you know.. make sure he doesn't burn the place down"
Kie laughed
"You know this really means a lot to him, dad" Kie smiled "Thank you"
He smiled back as JJ started casually walking down the stairs.
JJ stopped in his track when he saw Mike down there looking at him.
"Oh-" JJ Said jokingly
He shot him an awkward smile and laughed a little, knowing he'd been caught.
"Mhm" Mike said, crossing his arms
"JJ, you really want to take this on?" Kie asked, breaking up the tension of him getting caught up stairs. Him and Mike weren't at a place where he would get mad at him for that right now though.
"Are you kidding" he said, wearing the biggest smile on his face as he finished his way down stairs. Nothing could spoil his good mood right now. "This is it"
Mike smiled and pat JJ on the back
"Okay JJ, you can go home now" Mike said as he walked into the kitchen
"He can trust me to run a restaurant but not spend the night" he mumbled to Kie and she giggled
"What was that?" Mike asked
"Oh- nothing" JJ answered, fake serious
It felt good to be able to joke around with him again. Like he wouldn't get in trouble if he said one wrong thing.
Mike chuckled
"I gotta go put my two weeks in" JJ smiled and went to hug Kie "I'll see you tomorrow though"
He gave her a quick kiss and headed for the door
