After losing the bet, when Lilith's last class ended she went back to her dorm to relax for a bit. She hadn't seen Wednesday since lunch and was tempted to text her. But she didn't want to come off as clingy or needy. It wasn't like she actually needed Wednesday for anything right now.
She entered her dorm and froze in the doorway. On her side of the room against the wall was a rather impressive keyboard setup with a bench and everything. It wasn't on some kick stand and even had the pedals on the floor. It was about as close to a regular piano a keyboard could get. How much did this cost Wednesday? And how did she get it here so quickly?
She pulled out her phone. Now she had a reason to text the goth. She took a picture of the keyboard setup and sent it with the caption:
How much did this cost you?!
She sat down on her bed as she waited for a response. She started tapping her foot as one didn't come immediately like last time. Knowing Wednesday was probably busy helped her not worry too much. But as minutes passed and she had no response she couldn't help but feel disappointed.
Her door slammed open and in walked Wednesday carrying her cello case. "Unimportant." Lilith had jumped to her feet and Cloud hissed as the surprise had spiked her heart rate up. Wednesday paused. "Apologies." She then walked over to the wall and set her case down before beginning to open it.
"Uhh," Lilith didn't understand what was happening. Why did Wednesday bring her cello? Did she want to practice? And did she just verbally respond to a text sent five minutes ago? "Whatchu doin'?"
"We need to know the extent of each other's skills." She stood up with her cello and set it on the bed.
"Isn't that what I did yesterday in class?" Lilith crossed her arms.
Wednesday set up her portable stool. "Yesterday you showed me you were good. Now you need to show me that you're amazing." She grabbed her cello and sat down on the stool. "Play the most difficult piece you know and then I'll do the same. It will give a base to begin composing. It's important to know what we're both capable of."
Lilith bit the inside of her cheek. Wednesday had a point. She shrugged and sat down at her new keyboard. "Fine, but I better be blown out of the water when you play. What with all that big talk."
"It's only talk if it's not true."
The pyro smiled and cracked her knuckles. "Most difficult piece I know? I think I got something." She took a deep breath knowing this was bound to increase her heart rate a little. And then she began to play the piece she had long memorized after a ridiculous amount of hours of working on it.
She went with La Campanella, the nickname given to the third of Franz Liszt's six Grandes études de Paganini, S. 141. It took her full concentration so she didn't notice Wednesday's jaw drop.
She knew Lilith was a good piano player, but holy shit. La Campanella was an extremely difficult piece to play. If you were to google what the most difficult piano pieces were, La Campanella is on every top ten list. It's spot slightly varied due to subjectiveness, but always there. And Lilith could not only play it, but truly perform it. Theoretically anyone could learn to play a piece, but not everyone can perform said piece. Lilith could. And it literally stole the breath from her lungs.
After about five minutes, Lilith finished and Wednesday felt like she could breathe again. The pyro turned to her with a smirk. "So? What'd ya think?"
Wednesday shook her head slightly in disbelief. "I tell you to play the most difficult piece you know and you play one of the most difficult pieces to date."
