Jackson GreeneIt's been a full week since Austin brought Veronica around to see me. The last time I saw her, she was almost thirteen. We were so close in age the fact that I was her uncle barley registered, we were best friends.
I knew everything about her. Right down to her secret dreams. I mean they weren't really secret dreams they were just not something she wanted her dad to know. She and I were a lot alike.
So when I was nearly beat to death, on top of my cancer coming back. I called for her to lead in my absence. I did not want my nephew in my place, he would turn that gang into something so wrong, he would prove my father right. To leave Austin in charge he might never let me have my throne back. Don't get me wrong, He's trustworthy, but He also lets a little fame get to him and boost his ego. Sometimes.
I knew to tell them to ignore my brothers, the only person I knew I could trust was Veronica. She had the same dream. She always had, it was as though we were programmed the same.
I never understood how my best friend would be the only person to have such a similar dream as me.
"Jackson, what did you say to her?" Austin walked in hesitantly. He hadn't come out to talk to me since he took her home last week.
"Quite a bit actually why?" I questioned.
"She rolled the window down and pulled a dukes of hazard on me when I dropped her off." His British accent was so heavy with some sort of sadness.
"A classic Veronica move. She did that quite frequently as kids." I laughed a little to let him now she didn't do it to hurt him.
"She was also very awkward the whole trip to her house." I stopped for a moment, Veronica doesn't get awkward. I was confused.
"I see, well in that case we spoke of her wounds, you and the shooting."
"Wait you spoke of me?"
"Yes, in the most positive manner." I gave a light smile.
"I'm glad it was positive but I think she highly dislikes me." I rolled my eyes.
"I think your over thinking this, Austin my man you are a wreck."
"That's what you keep saying, you've used it so much it's become my nick name." He crosses his arms pouting.
"That would be why she referred to you as Wreck."
"Ah, yeh about that, I kind of told her to call me that." He chuckled a little. "I forgot my name when she spun around ready to beat my face in for following her around the market." He blushed a bit, scratching the back of his head.
"You're kind of an idiot but it's nice to see that she actually has an affect on you. She said she knew you from before you went back to school."
"What do you mean? Yes, I did know her then." He sighed
"You like her." I laughed. "What's the story?"
"What?" He said. I could see he was fighting himself internally. His face contorted.
"Or you don't and you just wanna get to know her which will lead to you crushing on her."
"C- crush?" He stammered. "Me? I... No way!" His face turned read and he faced his back to me.
"And my people skills have shut down, stay if you want, but you know how I get." I was getting tired. After all it was midnight and I hadn't been able to sleep the last two nights with the pain I've been feeling.
