"She's not the same girl she was that day. And neither are the bloke's, considering he was the most innocent and carefree of all of us and now he's out here being everything he once refused to be a part of."

"He's gonna get himself killed." I tried to shut the conversation down. It was hard enough to breathe, without talking. I walked over to my drawer and pulled out a t shirt and threw it on.

"Jackie, if he dosen't get killed, I hate to think what could happen to her, with him being the leader of the third terrain."

"Austin, don't think too much about something that ain't happened and neither one of us will let happen, you understand?" I watched his head nod. His brown eyes looked weak.

"Austin, don't hurt yourself falling for her." He shook his head.

"Jackie, I already did. She's yet to show interest in me outside of being friends just like she did years ago." I picked up Buddy, petting his head.

"Austin, she's not been given a very good impression of guys."

"I know that, bloody, Jackson I know that better than anyone." He ran his hands through his hair. "Jackson I spent the three years after that incident standing by her side doing everything I could to help her through it, and then one day I was dragged away without a say. I couldn't even contact her because I didn't have the money at the time. I came back knowing she'd be cold towards me for not even saying goodbye."

"Austin, just hang in there. She cares about you for sure."

"Jackie, I know she cares, but she's more distant than here to Carlisle." He paused. "Why are we even having this conversation?" His voice cracked and he spun around.

"I'm sorry, Austin. I meant you no harm and I apologize that it did hurt you."

"Jackie, it isn't your fault you just wanted to help me understand her side, and while you succeeded it only makes this little infatuation harder."

"Austin it's clearly not little." I patted his back. "Imma go in and let v know I'm ready to check in with her mom."

"Can I go with you please? I haven't seen her mom in ages. Last time she saw me I looked like walking sea weed."

"That's up to V. Regain your composure and meet inside in five minutes."

"Alright." He agreed. I carried buddy inside.

When I found her on the couch she looked terrified and was almost hyperventilating.

"Veronica?" I spoke softly and sat beside her watching the direction buddy and bandit were looking only to see nothing but an empty hallway. When Veronica tried speaking, Bandit began to growl, moving forward.

"Heya Jackie, miss me?" I heard the voice, but saw no one. I knew the voice and I knew who it belonged too. My blood boiled. "Get out, get out now! before I find your invisible—" Just then Austin walked in and bent down in front of Veronica. Veronica calmed down considerably. As if to show no weakness.

I on the other hand began to slowly look around the house for signs of how he got in. Unless he followed Veronica in, but dosen't seem likely.

I knew they'd know me, I knew Jackie would know my voice. I knew they'd remember. I danced my way through the house silently exiting from the window I'd left open. Climbing out closing it. I took off down the street. I ran the half mile back to my car and turned off the cloak I had on.

Veronica went home an hour ago. I left for down town. The fifteen miles it took to get to town were quite nerve wracking. I was anxious, leaving Veronica alone had me on edge. I was terrified of what the bloke would do to her.

The third terrain never had a good reputation, and they never intended to. They do what they want because they can. I don't fancy it. However they've been around longer than I even knew the island existed. I stopped when I found the bloke I was looking for.

"Watch it man." I'd nearly hit him with my car. The obscene gesture he sent me didn't even phase me. I climbed out of my car and stalked behind the guy.

It appeared that he was leading me to a dead end in the alley. I double checked to make sure my 'that-backfired' plan was still in my pocket.

"Austin you can stop following me. Ask me what you came here to ask me." He was leaned against the wall of the dead end in a tired manner.

"The note. Why are you after her? We've already told you how to get your place back and you refuse to change something. To get it back. You know that was Jesse's decision and not our-" He threw a knife sticking it in the wall behind my head.

"Sorry there was a roach." He seemed defeated.

"Judd, your sober right now, aren't you?"

"What's it to ya?" He said weakly.

"Please understand she can't change a rule that Jesse put in place that's up to Isaiah. But you have to understand some of the things you've done and still do, drive them further. From trusting you."

"Austin, I know why I don't fit there, I don't really want to be there but that's what my dad wants and I don't wish for him to pass away faster but he presses the matter every time I walk through the door." He ran a hand through his tasseled blonde hair. "I do what I do because of him, and I apologize for what my dad's bozos did when they found out you were looking for her."

"Judd, hang in there. For now don't start anything stupid." I offered my hand, he was my best mate at one time. He, instead of shaking my hand, hugged me.

"Thank you Austin. I need you to understand that the drugs I'm on only help me to fulfill my dad's commands. Usually I'm not on drugs by choice. My mind is beyond demented when it comes to dad's commands. Please please don't hold this against me when he passes away." He pulled away.

"Judd, I won't but I cannot promise you Jackie won't. That's his niece, blood or not. He acts like her big brother, just like that day."

"Speaking of that day, why did you hit me?"

"Judd you only got hit because you tried stopping me from ripping the others to shreds. They might have been my mates then but after they mocked her beauty, I wanted to kill them and you trying to stop me didn't help anything. I'm sorry for leaving you that day. I went looking for her, I had to, I needed to make sure she was alright."

"No don't be sorry for trying to make things right with someone that someone else screwed up. Just take care of her right now. Dad has some nasty plans, and I don't know what he's going to inject me with to make me carry them out, so please, please, please keep her out of it as much as possible."

My breath hitched. "He injects you with drugs, to control you?"

"Yeah." He sounded beyond defeated.

"Take care Mate."

"You too Austin, and keep her safe."

I nodded and turned on my heal, walking back to my car. I took the time to process the information as I walked, then as I drove and when I made it to the market I tried to shut the flow of thoughts down and was mostly successful.

Jackie would kill me if he knew I'd conversed with him. Jackie wouldn't let me anywhere near Veronica if he knew. What he said isn't my place to share any ways, but the way he hurt's hits hard.
