Nov. 6thHe was running straight at me. Made eye contact with me. I was on the other side of the room. I darted behind a fake potted plant. Where George was frozen I reached around he plant and thawed him out but I lost sight of the boy.
I watched George run and began dancing backwards as the boy came from my left. I was doing my best to avoid his blade.
"Alright Veronica, here's the thing." I took one more step back wards, I hit a wall.
"What is?" I brushed his arm with the knife in my hand. He stood in shock.
"I was supposed to hit you, not the other way around." He grumbled.
"See ya sucker." I smiled and took off. My moment of victory ended when I made it to the edge of the group and found my entire team frozen. I was closest to Ms. Shelia. I tapped her and she moved slowly to not draw attention from anyone else and tapped the next person. One at a time my team thawed but blonde boy was also thawed and was in hot pursuit.
I ran over to Austin and stood behind him for a second only to see Austin was frozen seconds later it was inevitable this time. I took too long. His knife grazed my palm. I felt the sting of the cut, my back resting against Austin's. The boy ran off with his victory. Austin's free hand wrapped around my bleeding palm.
"Are you okay?" He sounded breathless
"Yes dummy, it's a minor cut."
"He was not gentle with me, that's why I asked." His voice changed octaves.
"Where did he hit you?"
"My leg has a deep cut in it." He nearly screamed.
"Why are you standing on it?"
"I'm supposed to be frozen, I'm not going to be the reason we loose in the first round." I could feel his body heave forward with his other hand out of my reach.
"Alright tough boy." I stated as George ran at us and tapped my shoulder. Seconds later his pursuer hit him harder than necessary and turned to me. I moved quickly and brushed the guys ear.
I turned and thawed Austin. Then moved for George. His arms were bloody. As he laid on the ground. I tapped his shoulder and offered him my blood covered hand.
"Thank you." He took my hand and gently pushed himself up. I felt someone's knife dig into one of my bullet wounds and I held back a scream, when they jerked it back out. I bit my tongue and closed my watering eyes. I felt George's hand leave mine. I just stood in the middle of the battle field.
Aunt Gillian tapped me on the shoulder. "Go." She shouted as three guys got behind us. I thought for sure by now the timer would have gone off. I moved quicker darting past knifes being jabbed out at me. Until I tripped landing on my knees right in front of the blonde boy who moved to hit me again. I stuck my knife out grazing his leg. At the same time his knife grazed my other bullet wound. This time I let out a pain filled squeak and moved my hand in front of my mouth, keeping my screams at bay.
His eyes flickered with softness, but just as quickly was replaced with the previous emotion he moved his knife off my shoulder.
At last the timer rang but I didn't have the momentum to move. Let me tell you these were not those cute little pocket knifes meant for cutting tape or slicing an apple, no these were big enough to skin a turtle. For the most part they were bigger than my wounds.
