Pattie couldn’t understand Adan and his sudden friendship with Blesse. Mercy had deduced that Adan wasn’t a good person and she then swore to not speak to him even if he tried to start up a conversation with her. She had dreamt of a future with him but she saw it as a nightmare now. Dating a younger guy and then ending up with him only meant that he was going to cheat on her in the future. Worse, he didn’t even seem like he liked her.

She stepped out of her apartment and Adan, the man she hated was standing right in front of her door, smiling like he was happy to see her.

“Hey Pattie” he said, waving.

“Adan” she said and made to leave.

“You’re leaving for work? I wondered when you were going to leave” he said.

She ignored him and begun to walk down the stairs but he continued to follow her.

“Pattie, can I come with you? I want to see what the CIA station in Turner looks like” he said.

Pattie stopped walking down the stairs and turned to him angrily. What was his problem? He had ignored her when he was with the new neighbor who was hot and had a huge behind and now, he was speaking to her because he wanted to see what the CIA station in Turner looked like? She thought it was a load of crap.

“Adan, do you only talk to me when you want something from me?” she asked.

“Huh? No, I talk to you often, don’t I?” he said.

“Really? That’s what you telling yourself” she said and made to leave but stopped when she saw Blesse coming out of her apartment.

“Oh, I’m sorry if you see it that way. I’ll find my way there myself” he said and made to leave.

Pattie did her math and knew that if he saw Blesse, he was going to spend all day talking to her and that would make him draw further away from her. She was angry that he wasn't giving her any attention but her anger meant nothing to him. She knew it was only going to make him drift further apart from her.

“Wait!” she said and grabbed his hand.

“What’s this?” he asked.

“Hey, I was just joking. Can’t you take a joke?” she asked.

She saw the prettiest smile ever creep up his face and he took her hand in his and lead her down the stairs. She turned around and gave Blesse the dirtiest look ever as they walked to her car.

“Why do you want to go to the CIA station?” she asked when they had begun the journey.

Questions like the one she asked was exactly the reason why Adan didn’t like speaking to her frequently. But he wasn’t going to blame her because she was a detective and it was in her nature to ask questions.

“Um, I have an appointment with the head of the military crimes department there” he answered.

“I’m just curious about the whole CIA thing here” he added, hoping his answer would end her questions.

“Oh, curiosity. So typical of a CIA agent” she said.

“Sorry if the questions I’ll ask you now are personal as well but doesn’t your family at Horki miss you?” she asked.

He turned to her in disbelief. If she knew the questions were personal then why did she ask him? Was she trying to get on his nerves? Because he saw no reason why she would be worried about his family.

“I’m just curious, like you” she said.

“Oh, I see. Well, I don’t have a family there. I have no one” he answered.
