Chapter 14

😇Ben's POV😇
I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I turned it off and got up and took a hot shower. I ran a brush through my hair and went downstairs.

I was home alone. Mom was working with a client, and dad was sent to 'the after', it was only me now. I grabbed a bowl of cereal and ran outside to go to school.

I drove to school and I saw her again. Kaytie Gilwash the cutest, smartest girl in town. Of course Kaytie had never noticed me until I helped her with her car. I was considered a 'nerd' here at school. She would never talk to me again and that made me sad and mad at the same time.

Kaytie was getting out of the her sweet Mustang with her two best friends close at her side. There was Felicia Philmore, she was cute, but she didn't stand out to me. She kinda blended in with people, sort of afraid to be herself. Then there was Rose Willsburg, the hottest girl in school. I had a crush on Rose in pre-school all the way to 9th grade. I thought that me and her would be great together, but we found out that we would make even better friends.

Kaytie saw me staring at her and her friends and she waved at me to come over. Wait, she wanted me to come over to sit with her and her friends?! I walked over trying to look as cool as possible. I reached the table and sat next to Rose. I hadn't seen Rose in forever, she smelled like fresh flowers.

"Hey," I said

"Hey," Kaytie said, "guys this is-"

Rose looked around and cut Kaytie off.

"Ben Walker!" Rose exclaimed, she had excitement in her voice and on her face.

"Yep," I said looking at Rose she was beautiful but I, didn't like Rose anymore and she didn't like me, she made that pretty clear to me in 7th grade, "you probably don't recognize me, I did change a lot, you know I-" I got cut off as Rose came and knocked me off the bench with a huge hug. She laughed as we hit the floor.

"Sorry, you just look so different. You don't have your braces anymore and you cut your hair," she said in amazement.

"Yeah I did, I think I changed for the better though," I said

"You did," she said as she stood up. She reached her hand down to help me up. I took it and went back to the bench.

"Sorry," Rose said apologetically, "I haven't seen Ben since, 7th grade?"

"Yeah," I said suddenly embarrassed

Kaytie got up quickly, "I have to leave, I'm going to be late for 1st period,"

I felt Felicia kick Rose in the leg, "what did you do that for!?" Rose exclaimed hugging her leg. Felicia got up and ran to Kaytie. "Oh," Rose said in a small whisper. I looked at Kaytie walking away, I wanted to run after her and comfort her. Just then Rose turned to me, "listen to me very carefully Ben," she said, "you need to go comfort Kaytie," I looked at her confused, "Ben please!" She took my hand in hers, I shuddered a little bit.

"Okay, I will go see what I can do,"

"Thank you," Rose said getting up from the bench, just as she left he saw somebody come after her and pulled her into the corner. I looked at him, he was getting mad at Rose, he had black hair with blue eyes. Rose just stood there in her annoyed type of way. I got up from the bench and ran over to Kaytie and Felicia.

"Are you okay," I said running up to see Kaytie crying.

Felicia looked up relief flooded her face, she mouthed 'thank you' to me as she left down the hall.

"What do you want Ben," Kaytie snapped at me. I was surprised and scared.

"I was wondering if you were okay?" I said taking her hand into mine. She looked down at our hands and smiled. She looked into my eyes and said, "I am now,"

"Good," I said helping her get to her feet, our hands were still entwined and we didn't seem to care. I walked her to her first period and told her that I would talk her later. I went to my first period, Rose was in that class with me, I saw a seat open next to her, I jumped into it. She looked up from her book and smiled at me.

"You know your crazy right," she said in a whisper I leaned in to her and said in her ear, "you make me crazy," she laughed and pushed me away. It was a joke, I was like an older brother to her not a lover. As class started I felt someone staring at me. I turned around and saw that the same guy that was getting mad at Rose was staring at me. Looking like he was going to kill me if I touched her again. I faced forward but I still felt uneasy. Rose leaned in to me and whispered, "That's just Nathan, don't mind him," she said with a smile on her face. But I still couldn't shake the uneasy felling that I got when I looked at him. It sort of felt like I needed to hate him?
