Nevin was shaking in anger at what his mother had done, at this age he wondered if he had to be left with the neighbor, his mother didn't know that it was scarier to be left with Zion.

'You know I can go straight to town if you need to go to the airport,' Nevin said as they leave.

He was surprised when Zion suddenly stopped. He shrank back, his eyes widening nervously, fear trembling through him as he felt his fingers brush his blouse.

'You forgot the seatbelt,' he told her, his face turning red.

Nevin scolded himself for his reaction. Zion knew that he thought he was kissing him.

'I know you're disappointed because you can't go with your parents on vacation,' Zion remarked when they had joined the main stream of traffic

'Of course,' he admitted here. 'But I can't take leave of absence.'

'You can't or you don't want to?' Zion asked him. 'You don't want to be indebted to me, do you? If Drew is still the controller, maybe you'll take him on your vacation. Will he come later? So you're going out tonight?'

'No,' he replied to Zion, refraining from reacting to whatever he threw at him.

'Is it not? So let's have dinner,' Zion said mockingly to him. Thrown completely off guard, Nevin stared at him. 'We'll just be there for a moment, We'll be right back,' he answered Nevin immediately.

'I can't go with you,' Nevin told Zion. 'I need to be home with my parents tonight, they are leaving tomorrow.'

'So we're only going out on Saturday?' Zion said to him.

He was deliberately trying to spike him, he thought. 'I have date with Drew on Saturday.'

'Somewhere romantic and secluded,' Zion mocked, 'and then home to an empty house where you can be alone...'

'Drew is actually different from you,' Nevin said unwisely. 'He has other things on his mind besides sex...'

'More fool him,' Zion said crudely. 'And more fool you. Have you really never questioned his lack of desire for you, or yours for him?'

He caught up with him just as he reached the building, his fingers tightening on his wrist like an iron band. He looked upwards and saw anger, intermingled with another emotion that made his mouth go dry with dread.

'I know what you're thinking right now Nevin,' Zion told him grimly, 'Don't forget your parents left you to me Nevin, a duty I intend to take extremely seriously, so forget about your plan to bring Drew home. I won't let that happen.' he told him cruelly. 'Like I've already said, he doesn't want you and I'm sure you don't want him.'

'Not like you, of course!' snapped Nevin, thrusting him away, emotion conjured up by his words, and their effect on his senses.

'I know what you want to happen Nevin,' Zion answered him, 'But I won't let it happen.'

His morning was busy and he had promised to spend half an hour in one of the studios with Paul going over the approach they were going to take with the foster-parent scheme. Zion had already given it his approval, and Paul was keen to make as much use of the time left to them before Christmas as possible.

When he and Nevin had finished discussing the details Nevin stretched and glanced at his watch.

'Nearly lunch-time. Where does the day go? Did Zion say anything to you a bout why he was going to Manila?' He hadn't intended to ask him. In fact he had been determined not to betray any interest at all, but he held his breath while he waited for Paul's reply.
